Objectives. To examine nurses’ well-being and identify individual and workplace factors associated with adverse outcomes. Methods. The practice of nurse health coaching (NHC) draws from the art and science of nursing, behavioral sciences, and evidence-based health-coaching methods. This chapter is divided into two sections: 1. Image and Culture (Visual Cultural Theory; and Black Photography); 2. Black Cultural Theory (Anthropology and Cultural Theory). Section 1 discusses recent works on seeing race, racial identification, black civil war photography and twentieth-century black European photographic archives; section 2 discusses race and food history in the nineteenth-century formation of America’s body politic.
