Between 2011 and 2017, excavations by a joint German-Georgian team at the Tabakoni settlement mound in the Colchis lowlands of western Georgia uncovered complex wooden constructions preserved in the waterlogged soils. Excavations of a Barrow near the Village of Kayry in the Upper Reaches of the Tiligul Estuary
In 2020, in the area of the village of Kayry (~ 65—70 km to NE from Odessa), one barrow was excavated, in which 15 graves were discovered. The earliest burials were 4 burials of the Yamnaya culture. It appears that the bark had originally lain between all the slabs of the dry walling and the intermediary layer of the chamber; it was folded double, forming two layers, with the fold facing in towards the grave chamber. Birch bark in Danish passage graves
Birch bark has so far been observed in passage graves at eight localities. It appears that the bark had originally lain between all the slabs of the dry walling and the intermediary layer of the chamber; it was folded double, forming two layers, with the fold facing in towards the grave chamber.
