Events, narrative and data
In this paper, we discuss how the history of our discipline continues to shape how we think with material culture to produce narratives. We argue that recent developments in scientific dating-in combination with New Materialist and Big Data approaches-offer the potential to produce radical new interpretations. However, we can only achieve this if we adopt 'ethically Bayesian' approaches which recognise that some of the most fundamental aspects of…
The organics revolution
Organic remains from excavated sites include a wide range of materials, from distinct organisms (‘ecofacts’) to biomolecules. Biomolecules provide a variety of new research avenues, while ecofacts with longer histories of study are now being re-harnessed in unexpected ways. These resources are unlocking research potential, transcending what was previously imagined possible. However, this ‘organics revolution’ comes with a salutary corollary: our …
Reflecting on key themes in the study of plant and insect remains from the Troitsky excavations in Novgorod, 1994–2002
Our intention in this paper has been to explore three themes: Food and Fodder, Evidence for exploita- tion of the immediate hinterland, Waste disposal, obtained from the analysis of the remains of plants and insects recov- ered from the study of cultural layers of the Troisky excavations
Archaeobotanical Data from Two Middle and Later Bronze Age Round House Sites in Cork, Ireland
This dataset comprises two .csv files (containing archaeobotanical results) from two separate Bronze Age round house sites in southern Ireland (Mitchelstown and Ballynamona). It also comprises a .pdf file containing the text of a research report detailing the methodology, results and an interpretation of the archaeobotanical material from these two sites. This data was collated after archaeobotanical analysis of samples from the sites. It can be …

Reliability of Parental Reports Using the Katz Adjustment Scales
We examined the interrater and test-retest reliability of the KATZ Adjustment Scale (Relative rated or R form) longitudinally in a sample of schizophrenic patients, assessing their function before hospital admission, as well as at 1 and 9 mo. after discharge. Changes in mean scores over those assessments suggested sensitivity to change while mothers and fathers both completed the measure with moderate consistency over time. Interrater reliability…
