Extracting bilingual terms from the Web
In this paper we make two contributions. First, we describe a multi-component system called BiTES (Bilingual Term Extraction System) designed to automatically gather domain-specific bilingual term pairs from Web data. BiTES components consist of data gathering tools, domain classifiers, monolingual text extraction systems and bilingual term aligners. This article argues identifying as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and/or questioning (LGBTIQ) in rural spaces can produce specific types of policing experiences. While some literature examines the experiences of LGBTIQ people with police, very little has focused on how rurality explicitly shapes these experiences. Suicide around Anniversary Times
The anniversary of the loss of a loved one is known to induce negative emotions, which for some can be significant. The present study examined the incidence of suicide around the time of such anniversaries using data from the Queensland Suicide Register for the years 1998 to 2008. This essay challenges the generally accepted interpretation of Greuze's Young Girl Weeping over Her Dead Bird (1765) as an allegory of lost virginity by considering the painting in relation to eighteenth-century representations of the young girl in a range of discourses. This essay explores Mme Geoffrin's commission of two paintings from Carle Van Loo: the Conversation espagnole (1754) and Lecture espagnole (c. 1755). It argues that the "Spanish" theme needs to be understood with reference to the French discourse on galanterie and to aristocratic spectacle.
