Blackness and Lesbian Studies
This roundtable documents a conversation between four scholars who work at the intersection of Black, feminist, lesbian, and queer studies across a variety of methods. Their discussion focuses on the imagined, produced, and policed boundaries of lesbian studies as a field and “lesbian” as a category as each relates to the field of Black studies and the category of Blackness

This review of Oliverio Rodriguez's ongoing series The Last Seduction/La Seducción Fatal examines how his images press against European and South American “masters” of painting through explicitly queer and kinky optics. As Rodriguez uses collage techniques to activate the obvious, he creates a suite that theorizes the queerer grounds on which alternate modes of imaging might reflect the broader, more nuanced and quotidian practices of inhabiting …

This essay argues for detailed attention to the materiality of black queer women's spatial coordinates, the literal points of contact with the surfaces we traverse, as sites where categories of race, gender, and sexuality are disciplined and negotiated. It does so through a brief history of how Man's 90° relationship to the ground, a verticality and perpendicularity that valorizes a physical comportment that is also the structuring condition for …
