  • Autonomy and resilience in cultural work

Martin Beirne, Matt Jennings et al.•ARTICLE•Journal for Cultural Research•2017

How do cultural workers deal with the tension between autonomy and control in their working lives? Open Access•Martin Beirne, Fiona Wilson•ARTICLE•Work Employment and Society•2016•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 28

This article examines contemporary thinking about viable ways forward for gender equality at work. Open Access•Martin Beirne•ARTICLE•New Technology Work and Employment•2013•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 16

The findings highlight tensions between and within management and labour, yet also point to s…

  • Idealism and the applied relevance of research on employee participation

    Open Access•Martin Beirne•ARTICLE•Work Employment and Society•2008•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 21

Academic research on employee participation has lost some of the radicalism and commitment to progressive practice that was evident through much of the 20th century, becoming more detached and coldly evaluative. While idealistic concerns are still apparent in the regular condemnation of inauthentic participation, the focus of scholarly activity is largely restricted to analysis and explanation, without following through to an explicit logic of pr…

  • Controlling business? Agency and constraint in call centre working

Open Access•Martin Beirne, Kathleen Riach et al.•ARTICLE•New Technology Work and Employment•2004•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 12

Studies of call centre working have focused almost exclusively on the sophistication of technological and bureaucratic systems of labour control. The commercial context in which firms operate remains relatively under‐researched, despite exerting a significant influence on job structures and the working out of labour relations

  • Principles and consistent management in the arts
