  • What Premedical Students Need to Succeed

Jason Adam Wasserman, Alisa A Lopez et al.•ARTICLE•Academic Medicine•2025

Problem The 15 core competencies for entering medical students (now “premed competencies”) were created in 2011 to describe the skills and characteristics needed for success when starting medical school. Changes in the health care landscape and undergraduate medical education over the past decade required review and revision of the original competencies to ensure they still accurately reflected expectations for entering medical students. Approach…

  • The Aamc Standardized Video Interview

    Fiona E Gallahue, Nicole M Deiorio et al.•ARTICLE•Academic Medicine•2020

Calls to change the residency selection process have increased in recent years, with many focusing on the need for holistic review and alternatives to academic metrics. One aspect of applicant performance to consider in holistic review is proficiency in behavioral competencies. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) developed the AAMC Standardized Video Interview (SVI), an online, asynchronous video interview that assesses applicants…

  • Disentangling the effect of farming practice from aridity on crop stable isotope values

    Open Access•Amy K Styring, Mohammed Ater et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2016•Citada por: 49•Referencias: 62

Agriculture has played a pivotal role in shaping landscapes, soils and vegetation. Developing a better understanding of early farming practices can contribute to wider questions regarding the long-term impact of farming and its nature in comparison with present-day traditional agrosystems. In this study we determine stable carbon and nitrogen isotope values of barley grains from a series of present-day traditionally managed farming plots in Moroc…

  • Stable Carbon Isotope Evidence for Neolithic and Bronze Age Crop Water Management in the Eastern Mediterranean and Southwest Asia

    Open Access•Michael Wallace, Michael P Wallace et al.•ARTICLE•PLoS ONE•2015

In a large study on early crop water management, stable carbon isotope discrimination was determined for 275 charred grain samples from nine archaeological sites, dating primarily to the Neolithic and Bronze Age, from the Eastern Mediterranean and Western Asia. This has revealed that wheat (Triticum spp.) was regularly grown in wetter conditions than barley (Hordeum sp.), indicating systematic preferential treatment of wheat that may reflect a cu…

  • Combining functional weed ecology and crop stable isotope ratios to identify cultivation intensity

    Open Access•Amy Bogaard, John Hodgson et al.•ARTICLE•Vegetation History and…•2015•Citada por: 36•Referencias: 17

This investigation combines two independent methods of identifying crop growing conditions and husbandry practices-functional weed ecology and crop stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis-in order to assess their potential for inferring the intensity of past cereal production systems using archaeobotanical assemblages. Present-day organic cereal farming in Haute Provence, France features crop varieties adapted to low-nutrient soils managed th…

  • Refining human palaeodietary reconstruction using amino acid δ15N values of plants, animals and humans

    Open Access•Amy K Styring, Rebecca Fraser et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2014•Citada por: 20•Referencias: 11

An established method of estimating the trophic level of an organism is through stable isotope analysis of its tissues and those of its diet. This method has been used in archaeology to reconstruct past human diet from the stable nitrogen isotope (δ15N) values of human and herbivore bone collagen. However, this approach, using the 15N-enrichment of human bone collagen δ15N values over associated herbivore bone collagen δ15N values to predict the …

  • Crop manuring and intensive land management by Europe’s first farmers

Open Access•Amy Bogaard, Rebecca Fraser et al.•ARTICLE•Proceedings of the National…•2013

The spread of farming from western Asia to Europe had profound long-term social and ecological impacts, but identification of the specific nature of Neolithic land management practices and the dietary contribution of early crops has been problematic. Here, we present previously undescribed stable isotope determinations of charred cereals and pulses from 13 Neolithic sites across Europe (dating ca . 5900–2400 cal B.C.), which show that early farme…

    Open Access•Rebecca Fraser, R A Fraser et al.•ARTICLE•World Archaeology•2013•Citada por: 75•Referencias: 48

In this paper we reconstruct the palaeodietary setting of LBK Vaihingen an der Enz, south-west Germany (later sixth millennium cal. bc) using C-13 and N-15 values of human and faunal bone collagen and of charred plant remains from cereal crops (e.g. emmer and einkorn wheat) and pulses (lentil and pea).
