    Open Access•Michinobu Kuwae, B Finney et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 29

For assessment of the potential of the Beppu Bay sediments as a Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) candidate for the Anthropocene, we have integrated datasets of 99 proxies. The datasets for the sequences date back 100 years for most proxy records and 1300 years for several records. The cumulative number of occurrences of the anthropogenic fingerprint reveal unprecedented increases above the base of the 1953 flood layer at 64.6 c…

  • Link between East Asian summer monsoon and sedimentation in river-mouth sandbars since the early Holocene preserved in the Yangtze River subaqueous delta front

Open Access•Gang Xu, Jian Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

This paper presents geochemical and grain-size records since the early Holocene in core ECS0702 with a fine chronology frame obtained from the Yangtze River subaqueous delta front. Since ~9500 cal yr BP, the proxy records of chemical weathering from the Yangtze River basin generally exhibit a Holocene optimum in the early Holocene, a weak East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) period during the middle Holocene, and a relatively strong EASM period in th…

  • Late-Holocene high-frequency East Asia Winter Monsoon variability inferred from the environmentally sensitive grain size component in the distal shelf mud area, East China Sea

    Open Access•Shuhuan Du, Rong Xiang et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2018•Referencias: 12

The B2 (B2G) and I4 sediment cores recovered from the centre of the distal mud area of the East China Sea (ECS) were analysed for grain size distribution. Proxies for environmentally sensitive grain size components (ESGSC) retrieved from the composite B2 core, namely, variations in the volumetric content and mean grain size of specific grain size fractions, reveal a detailed history of the East Asia Winter Monsoon (EAWM) including centennial to d…

  • Pollen record of the centennial climate changes during 9–7 cal ka BP in the Changjiang (Yangtze) River Delta plain, China

Open Access•Bing Song, Zhen Li et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2017

We reconstructed the centennial climate changes for the period of 9–7 cal ka BP in the upper region of the Changjiang (Yangtze) River Delta plain. A general warming and wetting trend from 8560 to 7220 cal yr BP was indicated by the decrease in Quercus (deciduous) and increases in Quercus (evergreen), Pinus , and Polypodiaceae spores. However, there were several brief climate fluctuations. A notable palynological change, from regional assemblages …

  • A mid- to late-Holocene record of vegetation decline and erosion triggered by monsoon weakening and human adaptations in the south-east Indian Peninsula

    Open Access•Meng Cui, Zhanghua Wang et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2017•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 8

The mid- to late-Holocene monsoon decline led to aridification of the Indian Peninsula impacting the early agricultural practices in the region. Our analysis of organic carbon, mineral magnetic properties and AMS 14 C dating of a 54.2-m-long sediment core (CY) from the Godavari Delta, India, showed changes in the organic carbon source and sediment provenance, which are linked to the changes in vegetation and soil/rock erosion caused by widespread…

  • Mid-Holocene mangrove succession and its response to sea-level change in the upper Mekong River delta, Cambodia

Open Access•Zhen Li, Yoshiki Saito et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2012

Middle Holocene vegetation and mangrove successions are clearly evident in the palynological records of two cores from the upper Mekong River delta in Cambodia. Spanning from ~ 9.4 to 6.3 cal ka BP, the cores mainly record a transgressive sequence from floodplain freshwater marsh to tidal flat, which was overlain by mangrove. Corresponding to the decelerated sea-level rise at ~ 8.3 cal ka BP, pioneer mangrove species Sonneratia alba and Sonnerati…

  • Natural levees and human settlement in the Song Hong (Red River) delta, northern Vietnam

    Open Access•Ayako Funabiki, Yoshiki Saito et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2012•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 4

The Song Hong (Red River) delta, northern Vietnam, is characterized by huge natural levees in an area of the delta plain known as the West Floodplain where fluvial sedimentation predominates. The natural levees along the Day River, a major distributary of the Song Hong, are comparable in size with those of the main course of the Song Hong. The Day River levees are 3–8 km wide and rise 2–5 m above the adjacent backswamps and have played an importa…

  • Lithological and Palynological Evidence of late Quaternary Depositional Environments in the Subaqueous Yangtze Delta, China

Open Access•Zhanghua Wang, Hao Xu et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2010

AMS 14 C ages of post-glacial core sediments from the subaqueous Yangtze delta, along with sedimentary structures and distributions of grain size, pollen spores, and dinoflagellate cysts, show an estuarine depositional system from 13 to 8.4 cal ka BP and a deltaic system from 5.9 cal ka BP to the present. The estuarine system consists of intertidal to subtidal flat, estuarine, and estuarine-front facies, characterized by sand"mud couplets and a h…

  • Palynological evidence for late Holocene environmental change on the Gimhae fluvial plain, Southern Korean peninsula

    Open Access•Sangheon Yi, Yoshiki Saito•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2003•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 1

This paper presents the results of detailed studies of palynomorphs recovered from two cores collected near the Yeanri burial mound on the Gimhae fluvial plain. Two local pollen zones were recognized on the basis of variations in the palynofloral assemblage: a lower Pollen Zone I, dominated by a Pinus‐Quercus assemblage, and an upper Pollen Zone II, dominated by a Pinus‐Quercus ‐Gramineae assemblage. The palynological and molluscan analyses indic…

  • Rice domestication and climatic change

Open Access•Houyuan Lu, Zhenxia Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Boreas•2002

Fossil rice phytoliths have been identified from a lateglacial to Holocene sequence of epicontinental sediments in the East China Sea that were probably transported by the Yangtze River from its middle and/or lower reaches. The rice phytoliths occurred first in the sequence at about 13 900 cal. yr BP and disappeared during the period of 13 000–10000 cal. yr BP, implying the earliest domesticated cereal crops of the world ever reported. Based on t…
