  • Relationship between transition shock, psychological contract, and resilience among new graduate nurses

Open Access•Daijun Chen, Zhun Li et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Aim: As the healthcare industry evolves, new graduate nurses encounter challenges transitioning from students to practitioners, impacting team stability and service quality. Many experience transition shock, marked by role confusion, skill gaps, and interpersonal pressures. Understanding the factors contributing to this phenomenon is crucial. However, recent studies have primarily focused on the overall level and influencing factors of transition…

  • Association and attributable hospital costs of chronic pain with relevant geriatric sensitive diseases among the older adults

Open Access•Ting Chen, Tianjiao Lan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background The adverse impacts of chronic pain extend far beyond the physical sensation itself. Chronic pain, an age-related condition, exacerbates geriatric disease burden and drives a central sensitivity-neuropsychiatric complex, necessitating urgent preventive care. This study aimed to investigate the impact of chronic pain on two sensitive diseases, depression, and abilities decline in basic or physical activities (functional limitation) amon…

  • Research on pollen allergy in Fuzhou, China

Open Access•Xin Yue, Mingyong Guo et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

  • Environmental safety thresholds for children with asthma symptoms

Open Access•Ting Chen, Chang-Sui Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2026

Background Current air quality standards are designed for healthy populations, while their adequacy in protecting children with asthma symptoms remains unclear. We prospectively delineated the effects of air pollution exposures across multiple time windows on the longitudinal trajectories of childhood asthma. Methods This 18-month prospective cohort study involved 1,545 high-risk children presenting with asthma symptoms. We utilized latent class …

Background Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA) is a significant global public health concern, with survival rates ranging from 2% to 11%. Bystander Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is crucial for improving survival rates. However, public willingness to perform CPR varies widely because of many determinants. This study aims to systematically synthesize qualitative evidence on the determinants of public participation in Out-of-Hospital Cardiop…

Objective A large number of aerosols containing pathogenic microorganisms can be produced during bronchoscopy. The aim of the study is to evaluate the risk of nosocomial infection by pathogenic microorganisms after bronchoscopy. The distribution characteristics of aerosol microorganisms were detected before and after bronchoscopy, and then compared with the distribution characteristics of the patients’ respiratory pathogens. Methods A total of 15…

  • Based on regional heterogeneity

Open Access•Qianwen SONG, Anyu Ye et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Background: Hospital service efficiency is a vital indicator of the effectiveness of a country's healthcare system. If regional heterogeneity is ignored in measuring the efficiency of health services, erroneous judgments may result. Methods: This study utilized the Meta-Frontier Slack-Based Measure (SBM) model to evaluate the efficiency of hospital services across various Chinese provinces from 2009 to 2022. Efficiency comparisons were made using…

  • Long Live Keju! The Persistent Effects of China’s Civil Examination System

    Open Access•Ting Chen, James Kai‐sing Kung et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2020•Citada por: 53•Referencias: 9

China's civil examination system (keju), an incredibly long-lived institution, has a persistent impact on human capital outcomes today. Using the variation in the density of jinshi—the highest qualification—across 278 Chinese prefectures in the Ming-Qing period (c. 1368–1905) to proxy for this effect, we find that a doubling of jinshi per 10,000 population leads to an 8.5% increase in years of schooling in 2010. The persistent effect of keju can …

  • Rivals within

    Open Access•Ting Chen, Ji Yeon Hong•ARTICLE•Political Science Research and…•2021•Citada por: 20•Referencias: 42

Loyalty is a permanent concern to dictators. It is unclear, however, whether loyalty to a dictator assures the ruling group's cohesiveness. This study shows that authoritarian political elites under promotion pressure, while remaining loyal to their superior, also compete within factions to outrival their peers. Exploiting data on Chinese provincial leaders and local media reports on corruption investigations and industrial accidents (2000–2014),…

    Open Access•Ting Chen, Li Han et al.•ARTICLE•The Economic Journal•2022•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 28

By matching data on land transactions in China’s primary land market with detailed curricula vitae of board directors in publicly listed firms, we identify a pattern of ‘revolving-door’ exchanges between local officials and firms. The officials discounted the price of land that they sold to the said firms, and were subsequently rewarded with board appointments upon retirement. Specifically, these ‘client officials’ are three times as likely to be…

  • The Missionary Roots of Nationalism

    D Mattingly, Daniel C Mattingly et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Politics•2022•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 28

What explains the origins of nationalism? In this article, we trace the origins of an important early twentieth-century nationalist movement to Christian missionary activity. A growing literature credits missionaries with spreading schooling and democracy. Yet missionary activity often led to a political backlash and to antiforeign, nationalist mobilization. Drawing on evidence from China, we show how missionary activity sparked nationalist mobil…

The mid- to late-Holocene monsoon decline led to aridification of the Indian Peninsula impacting the early agricultural practices in the region. Our analysis of organic carbon, mineral magnetic properties and AMS 14 C dating of a 54.2-m-long sediment core (CY) from the Godavari Delta, India, showed changes in the organic carbon source and sediment provenance, which are linked to the changes in vegetation and soil/rock erosion caused by widespread…

Green initiative-taking, an employee's self-starting opportunity-seeking action to improve environmental performance is a desirable outcome of organizations' green policies. Given prior inattention to this area of study, it is unclear what fosters green initiative-taking, and why. This study attempts to answer these questions using a mixed-methods approach. First, an exploratory qualitative study was conducted. Green human resource management, ec…

Using data on over a million land transactions during 2004–2016 where local governments are the sole seller, we find that firms linked to members of China's supreme political elites—the Politburo—obtained a price discount ranging from 55.4% to 59.9% compared with those without the same connections. These firms also purchased slightly more land. In return, the provincial party secretaries who provided the discount to these “princeling” firms are 2…
