The gender gap is one of the main puzzles explored in research on political knowledge. Studies on children have shown that this phenomenon takes root in childhood. Quantitative evaluation of an information leaflet to increase prompt help-seeking for gynaecological cancer symptoms
Increased symptom knowledge and lowered perceived barriers were related to increased prompt anticipated help-seeking. This occurred without an increase in anxiety. This intervention is effective in altering knowledge, beliefs and help-seeking intentions for gynaecological cancer symptoms, at least in the short-term, and should be trialled in primary care
Examining the effects of adjuvant chemotherapy on cognition and the impact of any cognitive impairment on quality of life in colorectal cancer patients
The result from this study will indicate whether a decline in cognitive functioning can be attributed to chemotherapy or to disease, surgical or some other confounding factor. Identification of risk factors for cognitive deficits may be used to inform targeted interventions, in order to improve QoL and help patients' cope
Answering Patient Questions about the Role Lifestyle Factors Play in Cancer Onset and Recurrence
This qualitative study examined how cancer specialists answer patient questions about what might have caused their cancer. Findings showed that while they were often candid about the role of smoking and drinking in cancer onset and that of diet in cancer recurrence, body weight and exercise were rarely mentioned. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to test the hypothesis that socioeconomic disadvantage results in adverse emotional reactions to a novel, stressful, medical examination. METHODS: Sigmoidoscopy screening for colorectal cancer was identified as a potential stressor.
