Experimental simulation of ice-wedge casting
In six experiments, model ice wedges 150 mm high and ≤50 mm wide were thawed from the surface downward at 30 g in a geotechnical centrifuge, simulating ice-wedge casting during progressive active-layer deepening through permafrost. The frozen host soils ranged from sand to silt to clayey silt. Resulting ice-wedge pseudomorphs indicated that the degree of deformation during casting was determined by factors that control thaw consolidation. Hence, …

Some Observations on Boulder-Cored Frost Boils
resulting from vertical frost heaving of individual boulders. They were observed in various stages of development on two glacier forelands in Jotunheimen, southern Norway. In their final stage the features comprise a boulder core partially exposed at the surface but retaining a sediment/vegetation capping. Evidence of Neoglacial Solifluction at Okstindan, North Norway
A section excavated through two adjacent turf-banked solifluction lobes has revealed buried soils beneath each solifluction sheet. Five radiocarbon dates are reported from the buried soils and these reveal evidence of soil movement which probably extends over nearly 3,000 years until the present.
