Training and Deployment at Novo Catengue and the Diaries of Jack Simons, 1977-1979
This article examines training and deployment of Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) cadres in the late 1970s at Novo Catengue, the largest African National Congress (ANC) military training camp in Angola. This camp occupies an important space in the polarised literature on the liberation struggle. My general impression, after reading several autobiographies, is that an autobiography is not merely a catalogue of events and experiences in which a person has been involved, but that it also serves as some blueprint on which others may well model their own lives ... Racial and Ethnic Differences in Substance Abuse Treatment Initiation and Engagement
This study examined variations by race and ethnicity in initiation and engagement, two performance measures of treatment for substance use disorders that focus on the timely receipt of services during the early stage of substance abuse treatment. Administrative data from the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services were linked with facility-level information from the National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services. …
