High levels of breastmilk feeding despite a low rate of exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months in a cohort of vulnerable women in Toronto, Canada
Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) for 6 months is a global public health goal, but measuring its achievement as a marker of population breastmilk feeding practices is insufficient. Additional measures are needed to understand variation in non-EBF practices and inform intervention priorities. Breastfeeding rates are high in a prenatal community support program targeting vulnerable women and offering enhanced postnatal lactation support
This study provides initial evidence that postnatal lactation support can be delivered within a CPNP site, with high uptake by clients. While all participants initiated breastfeeding and 84% continued for 6 months, adherence to the recommended 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding was low. Further research is needed to better understand the barriers to exclusive breastfeeding and how to support this practice among vulnerable women. Study registered…

Gortyn, in south‐central Crete, was settled in the end of the Bronze Age and later became the administrative capital of Crete in the Roman era. It was the site of important temples in the Orientalizing period and the Gortyn Law Code inscription in the Classical era. The Agiasmati cave in SW Crete, investigated as part of the Sphakia Survey, served as a sanctuary in the Hellenistic-Early Roman period. It has four points of interest, (1) Two of its principal types of artefacts, ladles and multiple-nozzle lamps are rare or even unique to this site. (2) Fabric analysis has enabled significant progress to be made with the interpretation of the pottery. (3) Cave worship in this period is not well known on Crete. (…
A Roman Battle Sarcophagus at Concordia University, Montreal
IN 1966 A MONTREAL ART COLLECTOR DONATED a Roman/early Christian sarcophagus to Loyola College in Montreal. In 1992 this artifact was moved to the newly created Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery at Concordia University. It is composed of a long, narrow casket carved with a scene of Romans fighting barbarians on the front (Plate 1) and a single griffin on each short side. The lid is flat and shows episodes from the Old and New Testament (Plate 2)…
