  • What Matters in Help-Seeking and Disclosure Intent of Intimate Partner Violence During the Covid-19 Pandemic

Open Access•Christina Palantza, Maxine Davis et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2026

The COVID-19 pandemic increased Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) internationally and disrupted health services. The pandemic also exacerbated risk factors linked to IPV, such as deteriorating mental health. As access to health care became restricted, IPV survivors faced barriers to help-seeking. No study has examined the factors related to IPV help-seeking intent during the pandemic, which might differ from actual behavior. The aim is to examine t…

  • Brief Intimate Partner Violence Perpetration Screening Tools

    Open Access•Maxine Davis, Diana Padilla-Medina•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2021

Recent research findings indicate that patients are willing to disclose their use of violence to health-care providers if asked. Health-care providers have a unique opportunity to screen their patients for intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration; however, given the time constraints and limited personnel within medical offices and emergency-care facilities, instrument brevity is critically important. The development and evaluation of tools to…

  • Compared to What? A Meta-Analysis of Batterer Intervention Studies Using Nontreated Controls or Comparisons

Open Access•Shih‐ying Cheng, Maxine Davis et al.•ARTICLE•Trauma Violence & Abuse•2021

This meta-analysis updates the literature on the effectiveness of batterer intervention programs (BIPs) in decreasing recidivism of domestic violence (DV) by focusing on studies with nontreated comparison groups ( N = 17). Included studies were published between 1986 and 2016, and 14 of the 17 provided sufficient information for the meta-analysis. Analysis focused on three reported outcomes: DV recidivism reported by the criminal justice system, …

Findings show variability in couples' responses to cancer, with some patients and couples adapting well and others needing additional support. During treatment and at follow-up, oncology social workers can assess patients' and family members' social support needs, provide mental health services, and provide patient navigation to help patients and caregivers access health care and community resources

  • The Men’s Group at St. Pius V

    Open Access•Maxine Davis, Melissa Jonson-Reid et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Men s Health•2020

Literature on Latino men and intervention for intimate partner violence/abuse (IPV/A) is slim. Over 100 men have voluntarily sought help for IPV/A perpetration from “The Men’s Group” (TMG) at St. Pius V parish in Chicago, IL (US) and remained engaged for extended periods. Given the rarity of prolonged non-court mandated engagement in batterer intervention programs (BIPs), a case study was conducted to explore how TMG functions. Drawing on multipl…

  • Gender differences in experiences of social support among men and women releasing from prison

    Open Access•Carrie Pettus-Davis, Carrie Pettus et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social and Personal…•2018•Citada por: 21•Referencias: 51

Objectives: Positive social support is critically important to postprison well-being outcomes. However, researchers and program developers are still trying to understand how to best promote stable and sustainable social support for formerly incarcerated individuals during reentry to the community. We sought to add to the body of knowledge on social support and prisoner reentry by comparing men and women releasing from prison on the quality (e.g.,…
