  • How does climate influence mangrove litterfall production across different species? A case study in Zhanjiang, China

Open Access•Yuhang Wang, Qi Liu et al.•ARTICLE•Trees Forests and People•2026

We revealed distinct phenological differences of mangrove species across organs and climate drivers. • Litterfall production of Rhizophora stylosa and Bruguiera gymnorhiza showed strong correlations, reflecting phylogenetic similarity. • Leaf litterfall was most sensitive to temperature, while flowers and propagules were strongly influenced by wind speed. • Avicennia marina exhibited more stable litterfall dynamics, primarily responding to precip…

  • Semiotics of Breaking Before and After the Olympics

Yuhang Wang•ARTICLE•The International Journal of the…•2026

Breaking’s cultural inheritance and its evolution into an Olympic sport are not mutually exclusive but represent a ‘negotiated symbiosis’, driven by the pragmatic ingenuity of its practitioners. Guided by Morris’ semiotic theory, the cultural evolution of breaking is examined. Bodily postures, dance movements, and competitive formats reveal clear trajectories and continuities across the three semiotic dimensions of syntax, semantics, and pragmati…

  • The celebrity disaster area effect

Open Access•Yuhang Wang, Liuyue Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Humanities and Social Sciences…•2025

Social media and public attention have resulted in an excessive concentration of humanitarian relief goods in high-exposure disaster areas and supply shortages in surrounding areas, which we refer to as a “celebrity disaster area effect”. This study uses system dynamics modeling and simulations to explore the impact of this effect on the humanitarian supply distribution during the 2022 Luding earthquake. We establish a celebrity disaster area eff…

  • Changes of School Travel During Shantytown Redevelopment

Hao Chao, Xinlin Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Annals of the American…•2025•Referencias: 41

Urban renewal significantly alters the built environment and triggers residential relocation, leading to profound life changes for residents compelled to relocate. Changes in students’ travel are a significant consequence of these transformations, but have rarely been thoroughly examined. This study examines the school travel changes in Heze, where China’s most intensive shantytown redevelopment started from 2016 to 2018. A community survey of 61…

  • Dynamic analysis of NGO emergency relief goods supply

Open Access•Yi Lü, Yuhang Wang•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Intention: Global emergencies cause significant damage to lives, assets, and the economy. Therefore, the supply of relief goods is essential in emergency relief contexts, which is generally the function of non-government organizations (NGOs) as they have unique relief goods supply advantages. However, few studies have explored the influencing factors on NGO relief goods supply efficiency. To systematically explore the factors affecting supply eff…

  • Arctic sea ice modulation of summertime heatwaves over western North America in recent decades

Open Access•Houwen Wang, Yang Gao et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2022

A catastrophic heatwave struck North America (NA) in the summer of 2021, the underlying cause of which currently remains unclear. The reanalysis data (1980–2021) is analyzed to elucidate the mechanism modulating the summer heatwaves. We find the heatwaves over western NA tend to occur concurrently with quasi-barotropic ridges (QBTRs). The 2021 record-breaking heatwave, in particular, coincides with an extended eight-day QBTR event. The frequency …

  • Emission Characteristics and Health Risks of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Measured in a Typical Recycled Rubber Plant in China

Open Access•Shuang Wang, Yucheng Yan et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The continued development of the automotive industry has led to a rapid increase in the amount of waste rubber tires, the problem of "black pollution" has become more serious but is often ignored. In this study, the emission characteristics, health risks, and environmental effects of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from a typical, recycled rubber plant were studied. A total of 15 samples were collected by summa canisters, and 100 VOC species we…

  • The Impact of Meteorology and Emissions on Surface Ozone in Shandong Province, China, during Summer 2014–2019

Open Access•Houwen Wang, Yang Gao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

China has been experiencing severe ozone pollution problems in recent years. While a number of studies have focused on the ozone-pollution-prone regions such as the North China Plain, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta regions, few studies have investigated the mechanisms modulating the interannual variability of ozone concentrations in Shandong Province, where a large population is located and is often subject to ozone pollution. By util…

  • Mechanism of Oxytetracycline Removal by Coconut Shell Biochar Loaded with Nano-Zero-Valent Iron

Open Access•Qi Li, Siyu Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

In this paper, coconut shell biochar (BC), pickling biochar (HBC), and nano-zero-valent iron-loaded biochar (nZVI-HBC) were prepared; these were used to remove oxytetracycline (OTC), and the removal mechanism and degradation product were analyzed. These biochars were characterized using SEM, XRD, FTIR, and XPS. The effects of biochar addition amount, pH, ion type, and ion concentration on OTC adsorption were studied by a batch adsorption experime…

  • Formation and dissipation dynamics of the Asian tropopause aerosol layer

Open Access•Qianshan He, Jianzhong Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2020

The Asian tropopause aerosol layer (ATAL) is characterized by enhanced aerosol concentrations in the Asian summer monsoon anticyclone in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere at 13–18 km altitude. A growing body of evidence suggests that the aerosol enhancement is closely connected with deep convection during the monsoon. However, the origin of the aerosols is under debate, and the key factors that determine the ATAL variability remain poo…

  • Evidence of heterogeneous Hono formation from aerosols and the regional photochemical impact of this Hono source

Open Access•Xingcheng Lu, Yuhang Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2018

Large missing daytime HONO sources have been reported by many previous studies around the world. Possible HONO sources include ground heterogeneous conversion, aerosol heterogeneous formation, soil emission, and photochemical production. In this study, a consistent 1-D framework based on regional and 3-D chemical transport models (CTMs) was used to analyze the unknown daytime HONO sources in 14 cases worldwide. We assume that the source of HONO f…
