We expand prior research on the sociology of birth by testing race and class effects on women's capacity to realize their childbirth preferences in hospital settings. Drawing on data from the U.S. Listening to Mothers survey, we use Poisson regression and logistic regression to examine the extent to which women's preferences are associated with actual experiences of medical intervention during perinatal care. Gender differences in knowledge and attitude towards biotechnology
The relationship between gender, knowledge of biotechnology, attitudes toward biotechnology, and various socio-demographic variables was investigated using the Eurobarometer 52.1. It was found that neither socio-demographics, nor differing levels of scientific knowledge could explain females’ greater probability of being pessimistic toward biotechnology. Flexible regression models with cubic splines
We describe the use of cubic splines in regression models to represent the relationship between the response variable and a vector of covariates. This simple method can help prevent the problems that result from inappropriate linearity assumptions. We compare restricted cubic spline regression to non‐parametric procedures for characterizing the relationship between age and survival in the Stanford Heart Transplant data. It was hypothesized that the use of self-reinforcement (SR) would vary as a function of the context in which it was administered. A recognition memory task was administered to 48 college students.
