Development and validation of the mental health professionals’ attitude towards people living with HIV/Aids scale (MHP-PLHIV-AS)
This study focused on the creation and validation of an instrument to measure mental health professionals' attitudes towards people living with HIV/AIDS. Rasch analyses (Rash, 1960, 1980) provided evidence to support a twodimensional (societal and personal dimensions) measurement of this attitude construct
Multiracial Identity, Color‐Blind Racial Ideology, and Discrimination
Because of the expansive multiracial population growth in the United States, the authors explored multiracial identity integration (MII), color‐blind racial ideology (CBRI), and discrimination using regression analyses with 288 individuals. CBRI and discrimination significantly correlated and predicted MII, with 15.3% of the variance explained by discrimination and CBRI. Undergraduate African–American student’s experience of racial microaggressions on a primarily white campus
Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between African–American undergraduate students, racial microaggressions (RMAs) and college retention rates. Design/methodology/approach Data were obtained from a survey given out to African–American undergraduate students, recruited from a large, midwestern, predominantly white public university ( n = 53). Psychometric Synthesis of the Multicultural Counseling Inventory
This quantitative synthesis combines results of 72 studies that published psychometric information for the Multicultural Counseling Inventory. Although internal consistency, subsample means, and intrascale correlations provide promising evidence, convergent correlations with other instrumentation and factor analyses of validity continue to raise questions regarding measurement of the multicultural counseling competence construct
Counselor Education Students' Perceptions of Wellness and Mental Health in African American Men
Colorism is discrimination based on skin tone. Skin color influences clinicians' diagnostic impressions. The degree to which colorism influences counseling students' clinical decision making is unknown. This study examined colorism's effect on counselor education master's students' (N = 154) clinical decisions. Analysis of covariance failed to produce statistically significant results when comparing students' evaluations of a male African America…
Doctoral-Level Counseling Students' Experiences of Social Class Microaggressions
The authors recruited 11 doctoral-level counseling students to participate in a study exploring the lived experiences of people who have encountered social class microaggressions (SCMs). Findings (consisting of 6 themes) suggest that SCMs are a distinct phenomenon arising from interpersonal and environmental exchanges that damage recipients. The authors present implications for counselor education and future research trajectories
