Thomas Müntzer and the World to Come
This article examines the figure of Thomas Müntzer in Marxist historiography, as well as the "utopianisation" of Müntzer in Ernst Bloch's 1921 study on Thomas Müntzer as Theologian of the Revolution. I review some of the differences in Martin Luther and Müntzer in their competing views for the future after the break from Rome, and the theological thrust of Müntzer's vision. Colonialism and orthodoxy in Greenland
In this article I follow the struggles between a Danish missionary, Niels Hveyssel, and a Greenlandic ‘heretical’ movement in the late eighteenth century in Greenland. The so-called Habakuk affair was the first unauthorized Greenlandic appropriation of Christianity. The movement lasted a couple of years and its demise is usually credited to the intervention and control of head catechist Frederik Berthelsen. After outlining some historical current…
