  • Non-Ionic Surfactant Recovery in Surfactant Enhancement Aquifer Remediation Effluent with Chlorobenzenes by Semivolatile Chlorinated Organic Compounds Volatilization

Open Access•Patricia Sáez, Aurora Santos et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Surfactant enhanced aquifer remediation is a common treatment to remediate polluted sites with the inconvenience that the effluent generated must be treated. In this work, a complex mixture of chlorobenzene and dichlorobenzenes in a non-ionic surfactant emulsion has been carried out by volatilization. Since this techhnique is strongly affected by the presence of the surfactant, modifying the vapour pressure, Pv0, and activity coefficient, γ, a co…

  • Ethics and Genomic Editing Using the Crispr-Cas9 Technique

Open Access•David Lorenzo, Montse Esquerda et al.•ARTICLE•NanoEthics•2022•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 1

The field of genetics has seen major advances in recent decades, particularly in research, prevention and diagnosis. One of the most recent developments, the genomic editing technique Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-Cas9, has opened the possibility for genetic therapies through genome modification. The technique marks an improvement on previous procedures but poses some serious ethical conflicts. Bioethics is th…

  • Surfactant-Enhanced Solubilization of Chlorinated Organic Compounds Contained in DNAPL from Lindane Waste

    Open Access•Raúl García-Cervilla, Arturo Romero et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

Application of surfactants in the remediation of polluted sites with dense nonaqueous phase liquid (DNAPL) still requires knowledge of partitioning between surfactants and pollutants in the organic and aqueous phases and the time necessary to reach this balance. Two real DNAPLs, generated as wastes in the lindane production and taken from the polluted sites from Sabiñanigo (Spain), were used for investigating the solubilization of 28 chlorinated …

  • Ritual and Rule in the Periphery

Monique Nuijten, David Lorenzo et al.•CHAPTER•Rules of Law and Laws of Ruling•2016

Drawing on historical and ethnographic research conducted between 2003 and 2008 in Usibamba in the central highlands of Peru, this chapter examines the nature of state power and citizenship in the periphery. The history of Indian communities in the Andean highlands of Peru shows how territorial control formed the basis on which the state claimed authority over people and defined people's political identities as citizens. The Revolutionary Governm…

  • Ruling by Record

    Open Access•Monique Nuijten, David Lorenzo et al.•ARTICLE•Development and Change•2009•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 5

This contribution looks at land property relations in a peasant community in the central highlands of Peru. Rather than using a rights-based approach, the authors propose a 'practice force field approach' for their analysis of property relations under communal land tenure regimes. Their study combines qualitative ethnographic case studies with quantitative analysis of data on land distribution. In contrast to rights-based approaches, this perspec…
