  • Party activism in the populist radical right

    Open Access•Paul Whiteley, Erik Gahner Larsen et al.•ARTICLE•Party Politics•2021•Citada por: 14•Referencias: 81

Recent decades have seen an upsurge of interest in populist radical right (PRR) parties. Yet despite a large body of research on PRR voters, there are few studies of the internal life of these parties. In particular, there is a dearth of research about why people are active in them. This article uses data from a unique large-scale survey of United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) members to investigate if drivers of voting support for these part…

  • "Not one, but many "publics

    Open Access•Jennifer Hudson, David Hudson et al.•ARTICLE•Development in Practice•2020•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 21

Using new panel data from the Aid Attitudes Tracker (2013-18), this article draws on a set of 18 actions to map public engagement with global poverty in France, Germany, Great Britain and the United States. It introduces a new engagement segmentation comprised of five distinct groups - the totally disengaged, marginally engaged, informationally engaged, behaviourally engaged, and fully engaged. The data provide evidence of both aggregate and indi…

  • Against Everything Involving China? Two Types of Sinophobia in Taiwan

    Open Access•Kuan-Chen Lee, Wei-Feng Tzeng et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Asian and African…•2018•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 43

This paper develops a two-dimensional concept of Sinophobia (恐中) to study Taiwanese attitudes toward mainland China as well as their sources and political consequences. Taiwanese skepticism toward China has grown in recent years, concomitant with increasing cross-Strait interactions and exchanges. This has been widely characterized as a "Sinophobia syndrome." To investigate this phenomenon, we divide Sinophobia into two types-"group-difference-dr…

  • Presidential Approval, Partisanship and the Economy

Harold D Clarke, Harold Clarke et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Public…•1990•Citada por: 2

This paper examines several key debates in the literature on the effects of economic performance on political support, using the Continuous Monitoring Survey of the 1984 CPS American national election study. Box-Jenkins time-series analyses show that the electorate operates in terms of a reward-punishment model which is asymmetrical and sociotropic in its effects. In the models developed party identification and economic evaluations Granger–cause…

  • Perceptions of macroeconomic performance, government support and Conservative Party strategy in Britain 1983–1987

    Open Access•Harold D Clarke, Harold Clarke et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Political…•1990•Citada por: 15•Referencias: 39

This paper examines the relationship between macroeconomic performance and party popularity for the Conservative government of Margaret Thatcher in Britain from 1983 to 1987. A popularity function is estimated which shows that government support was significantly influenced by inflation and unemployment; perceptions and expectations of economic performance; and a variety of non‐economic variables and political shocks. A monetary policy reaction f…

  • Issue Volatility and Partisan Linkages in Canada, Great Britain, the United States, and West Germany

    Open Access•Harold D Clarke, Harold Clarke et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Political…•1985•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 20

Although the role of issues in elections has been widely studied, different approaches to the definition, classification, and measurement of issues render cross‐national comparisons difficult. Further, little attention has been paid to the stability or instability of issues across time, and the possible implications of issue change for voting behaviour and election outcomes. In this analysis, a common classification scheme is employed for measuri…

  • A National Sample Design

    Open Access•Lawrence Leduc, Harold D Clarke et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Political…•1974•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 3

The construction of national survey samples in Canada involves a number of theoretical and practical problems that range well beyond purely statistical considerations. Sample sizes for instance will tend to be large in comparison with those employed in many other nations not for greater accuracy but primarily because of the sheer diversity and geographical dispersion of the Canadian population. Likewise, the high cost of survey research at the na…

  • Attributes of Ascribed Influence in Local Party Organizations in Canada and the United States

Open Access•Allan Kornberg, Joel Smith et al.•ARTICLE•Canadian Journal of Political…•1972•Referencias: 28
