Stability and change in children's residence arrangements after parental separation
Objectives This study examines stability and change in children's residence arrangements after parental separation in Norway using detailed categories of residence arrangements. Background Most studies use broad classifications of residence arrangements. Finer distinctions may offer better insight into the dynamics of postseparation arrangements. Method The sample comprises 800 children from 504 separated families recruited from family counsellin…
Interparental conflict trajectories across various child residence arrangements when parents live apart
In Norway, as in most Western countries, a growing proportion of parents living apart choose shared residence for their children. The aim of this study was to investigate trajectories of five interparental conflict dimensions across four child residence arrangement groups (and three combination groups) to improve understanding of different conflict trajectories when parents live apart. We used data from the Dynamics of Family Conflict study. Fami…
Physical Custody Arrangements, Children's Age, and Children's Mental Health
This study investigated potential differences in mental health among children living in sole physical custody (SPC), asymmetric joint physical custody (JPC), and symmetric JPC; and it tested whether children's age moderated the association between physical custody arrangements and children's mental health. Using data from the Family Models in Germany (FAMOD) and Norwegian Dynamics of Family Conflict (FAMC) studies, we estimated OLS regression mod…
Effectiveness of the International Child Development Programme
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the International Child Development Programme (ICDP), a group‐based parenting programme used internationally and implemented nationally in Norway. We used a cluster randomized controlled trial in which 81 groups were randomly assigned to either the intervention or waitlist control condition after the baseline data collection. A total of 590 parents completed at least one of three questionnaires (a…
Effects of Covid‐19 lockdown on parental functioning in vulnerable families
Objective: The aim of this study was to increase the knowledge about how the initial Covid-19 lockdown influenced parental functioning in vulnerable families. Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has caused major changes to family life. Using a natural experiment design can potentially adjudicate on former inconclusive findings about the effects of lockdown on parental functioning in vulnerable families. Method: = 1368 responses). Mixed model regres…
Validation and short-form development of Conflict and Problem-solving Strategy Scales
The Strategy scales from the Conflicts and Problem-solving Scales is widely used and meaningfully distinguishes between conflict behaviours characterized by Cooperation, Avoidance, Child Involvement, Stalemating, and Verbal and Physical Aggression. The aim of this study was to validate the scale and develop a short-form for use across family structures. Confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) showed an unsatisfactory fit of the original Strategy scale…
Trajectories and possible predictors of treatment outcome for youth receiving trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy
The findings indicate that clinicians need to be aware that girls and youth with high levels of pretreatment PTSS may be at risk of nonresponse. The results support previous findings showing that TF-CBT is suitable across different age groups and can be an effective treatment for youth with a range of traumatic experiences and additional comorbid symptoms.
