  • Optimizing urban green space spatial pattern to reduce land surface temperature

Open Access•Xinyu Dong, Yanmei Ye et al.•ARTICLE•Sustainable Cities and Society•2026

Urban green space (UGS) planning often draws on average relationships between spatial configuration and land surface temperature (LST), whereas phased interventions require choices for specific locations and landscape states. This study compares three predefined greening rules with a greedy-based adaptive strategy (AS) in Philadelphia. A CNN-XGBoost model provides a common scenario-evaluation engine; the adaptive decision procedure selects among …

  • The Gender Pay Gap in China

Open Access•Wei Bai, Yan-Li Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Computing•2026

Equal pay is an essential component of gender equality, one of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Using resume data of over ten million Chinese online job seekers in 2015, we study the current gender pay gap in China. The results show that on average women only earned 71.57\% of what men earned in China. The gender pay gap exists across all age groups and educational levels. Contrary to the commonly held view that developmen…

  • Combining Gravity Box-Coverage With Effective Distance to Identify Key Nodes in Complex Networks

Open Access•Xiaoyang Liu, Shuyue He et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2026

Contemporary techniques for identifying key nodes in complex networks typically rely on the static topology of the network, often neglecting the potential dynamic information available. We introduce a novel centrality measurement approach named gravity box-coverage and effective distance (GBED). It capitalizes on the notion that the internal structure of the gravity box encapsulates crucial information about nodes. It transforms static Euclidean …

  • Spatiotemporal Heterogeneity and Driving Mechanisms of Ecological Quality Based on Modified Remote Sensing Ecological Index and XGBoost – SHAP Analysis

Open Access•Xiaoxian Wang, Xia Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

Ecological environment change is a critical issue in global environmental protection research. Understanding the spatiotemporal dynamics and drivers of regional ecological environment quality (EEQ) is essential to support sustainable ecosystem management. To evaluate the spatiotemporal dynamics of EEQ in the Qilian Mountain National Nature Reserve (QMNNR) from 1986 to 2023, this study constructed a modified remote sensing ecological index (MRSEI)…

Open Access•Tao Zhou, Xueting Zheng et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2026

The potential of optical satellites for the spatial prediction of soil organic carbon (SOC) and total nitrogen (STN) has long been recognized. Owing to their balanced spatial–temporal resolution, multisource observational capabilities, and unprecedented availability of free data, Sentinel satellites offer unique opportunities for mapping soil properties. Despite these opportunities, there is still a lack of studies systematically evaluating the c…

Huan Huang, Zhaojun Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2026•Referencias: 36

BACKGROUND: Older adults typically have higher sedentary behaviour (SB) and lower physical activity (PA) than younger adults. Studies on replacing SB with PA in relation to all-cause mortality in racially diverse older adults remain limited. METHODS: This study included 122 966 older adults from the China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) and 207 212 older adults from the UK Biobank (UKB). SB and PA were assessed using baseline questionnaires, with PA class…

  • Identifying Key Nodes Based on Neighborhood Topology and Voting Mechanism in Complex Networks

Open Access•Xiaoyang Liu, Hui Li et al.•ARTICLE•IEEE Transactions on Computational…•2025

Large-scale networks cannot be effectively addressed by global structure-based techniques due to their high temporal complexity, while local structure-based methods may overlook global information. To overcome these limitations, we propose a novel key node identification method for complex networks, named cycle structure, voting mechanism, ranking principle (CVR). This method adopts a multilevel processing approach and an enhanced voting mechanis…

Open Access•Menglin Yu, Tao Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2025

Ecosystem carbon sinks are vital for mitigating global climate change. In the past two decades, the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region has undergone rapid urbanization, with its carbon sink function undergoing significant changes. Understanding the spatial evolution patterns and formation mechanisms of ecosystem carbon sinks is critically important. Existing studies often examine single factors, lacking a comprehensive assessment of how natural and…

  • Tipping point of a conifer forest ecosystem under severe drought

Open Access•Kaicheng Huang, Chuixiang Yi et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2015

Drought-induced tree mortality has recently received considerable attention. Questions have arisen over the necessary intensity and duration thresholds of droughts that are sufficient to trigger rapid forest declines. The values of such tipping points leading to forest declines due to drought are presently unknown. In this study, we have evaluated the potential relationship between the level of tree growth and concurrent drought conditions with d…

In this process, the peasants have lost the right to oper…

  • Age and climate contribution to observed forest carbon sinks in East Asia

Open Access•Shan Gao, Tao Zhou et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2016

The observed forest carbon sink, i.e. positive net ecosystem productivity (NEP), in East Asia reported by the eddy covariance flux tower network is an integrated result of forests themselves (e.g. age) and abiotic factors such as climate. However the relative contribution of climate alone to that sink is highly uncertain and has been in debate. In this study we de-trended a primary effect of forest age on carbon sinks by a statistical regression …
