The association between emotional intelligence and burnout among Chinese nurses
Background Nurse burnout is a widespread global occupational health challenge in healthcare. However, the association between emotional intelligence (EI) and burnout remains relatively under-investigated within China’s collectivist cultural context. What is the magnitude and direction of the association between EI and burnout among nurses in Chinese tertiary hospitals? Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among 308 eligible nurses from a…
Constructing a socialist cultural market in the post-World Trade Organization era
China’s film industry policies play a pivotal role in governing production, distribution and exhibition, shaping the industry’s development. This study empirically analyses 32 national film policies (2001–20) to trace China’s strategic shift towards a state-controlled socialist cultural market – a framework designed to counterbalance the cultural impact of China’s World Trade Organization (WTO) accession in 2001. By introducing the concept of the…
China’s film reward and penalty policy after its World Trade Organisation membership
Adopting a policy perspective, this study conducts a corpus-based critical discourse analysis of 39 national film policy documents (2001–2020) to examine how China’s film reward and penalty policies shape its industry. It explores how these policies linguistically and institutionally constructed a socialist cultural market in the post-WTO period. Drawing on the theoretical framework of the socialist cultural market, the research reveals the discu…
Navigating Cultural Influence in China’s Post-World Trade Organisation Era

Capsinoids activate brown adipose tissue (BAT) with increased energy expenditure associated with subthreshold 18-fluorine fluorodeoxyglucose uptake in BAT-positive humans confirmed by positron emissio…
Capsinoids only increased EE in BAT-positive participants, which suggests that BAT mediates EE evoked by capsinoids. This implies that capsinoids stimulate BAT to a lesser degree than cold exposure as evidenced by 18F-FDG uptake below the presently accepted SUV thresholds defining BAT activation. This trial was registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as NCT02964442.
