At present, the academic research on vocal music language is diversified, and has explored the path of vocal music occurrence and its development direct…

  • Exploring the Interpersonal Functions of Negation in Science Writing Across 35 Years

Open Access•Huiyu Wang, Ying Wei et al.•ARTICLE•Written Communication•2024

Researchers’ investment in reader engagement includes the construction of an appealing abstract. While numerous studies have been conducted on abstracts’ rhetorical features, scant empirical attention has been paid to negation use in academic writing. The current study seeks to narrow the research gap from a general and diachronic perspective by adopting an interpersonal model of negation. We found that while not, no, and little tend to be the co…

  • Social class, schadenfreude, and children’s prosocial behavior in moral contexts

    Zuo-Jun Wang, Zuo‐Jun Wang et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2024

Previous research has shown mixed results regarding the relationship between social class and children's prosocial behavior. The current study aims to further our understanding of these findings by exploring the relationship between social class and children's prosocial behavior in a moral context. Study 1 ( N = 833) found that when a target child pursued a morally negative goal and subsequently experienced misfortune, children from higher social…

Open Access•Esther Spindler, Hoffman et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

Few studies have sought to untangle the influence of social determinants and pregnancy on adolescent marriage declines. Using longitudinal data from 15- to 17-year-old girls in the Rakai Community Cohort Survey, we assessed how education, socio-economic status, orphanhood and pregnancy contributed to trends in adolescent marriage. We examined descriptive trends and logistic regressions of the associations between social determinants and adolescen…

  • Names of Hutong in Kaifeng

Open Access•Shuxia Yang, Bing Mei et al.•ARTICLE•Names•2024•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 1

The common narrow lane in ancient cities of North China, the hutong, has long been of interest to scholars. However, the limited onomastic research on hutong names is mostly confined to Beijing, leaving the toponymic landscape of other well-known ancient cities underexplored. In view of this gap, this study, based on 67 hutong names and 201 non-hutong names of Kaifeng, explores the phonetic, morphological, and semantic features of these hodonyms.…

  • Air pollution mitigation in North China through flexible heating policies

Open Access•Jiandong Li, Xin Hao et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2023

Central heating in North China produces severe air pollution, although the need for heating may be reduced by rising temperatures associated with climate change. The regional trend of mean heating length (HL) for North China was −0.32 d per year during 1961–2019. Compared with the 2010–2015 mean values, the start and end dates for central heating in the North China Plain (NCP) during 2050–2055 will delayed by 9 d and advanced by 12 d, respectivel…

  • Post-Selection Inference for Generalized Linear Models With Many Controls

Alexandre Belloni, Victor Chernozhukov et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Business and Economic…•2016

This article considers generalized linear models in the presence of many controls. We lay out a general methodology to estimate an effect of interest based on the construction of an instrument that immunizes against model selection mistakes and apply it to the case of logistic binary choice model. More specifically we propose new methods for estimating and constructing confidence regions for a regression parameter of primary interest α0, a parame…
