Developing and validating a well-being scale for foreign language learners
With the growing emphasis on positive psychology, the well-being of foreign language (FL) learners has become a key area of focus. However, existing well-being scales are typically designed for the general population, and a scale specifically tailored to the unique experiences and challenges faced by FL learners is still lacking. To address this gap, the present study aimed to develop and validate a well-being scale specifically tailored for FL l…
Geo-CRDT
In distributed Geographic Information Systems (GIS), preserving topological validity without sacrificing real-time interactivity under high-frequency concurrent editing of spatial polygons remains a persistent challenge. Recent distance-based heuristic methods suffer from scale-dependent bottlenecks and unreliable topology preservation, while more robust application-layer caching mechanisms still incur severe queuing latency under intense concurr…

Afforestation Enhances Soil Mineral‐Associated Organic Carbon Accumulation Through Calcium‐Mediated Microbial Pathways in Karst Ecosystems
Mineral‐associated organic carbon (MAOC), protected from rapid microbial decomposition through mineral‐organic associations, is vital for the long‐term stability of soil carbon pools. Afforestation is a critical strategy for enhancing soil carbon storage; however, the mechanisms governing MAOC accumulation across divergent climatic conditions remain unclear, particularly for karst regions, which are ecologically fragile and characterized by high‐…
Grit and Willingness to Communicate in EAP Learning
Compelling evidence has confirmed the relationship between grit and willingness to communicate (WTC) in general English learning. However, this dynamic remains unclear among English for Academic Purposes (EAP) learners. Additionally, scant scholarly attention has been paid to the indirect pathways underlying grit and WTC, particularly in the context of EAP learning, where both communicative risk and cognitive load are elevated. Drawing upon socia…

Global trajectory and spatiotemporal epidemiological landscape of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis of spanning 46 years (1990–2035)
Background Although MDR-TB is recognized as a significant threat, systematic descriptions of its long-term (>30 years) global spatiotemporal evolution patterns are still limited. Objectives This study conducted a 46-year spatiotemporal analysis of global MDR-TB (1990–2035) to provide key evidence for evaluating and refining the WHO End TB Strategy. Methods We used Global Burden of Disease data to identify identified temporal inflection points in …
Environmental Heterogeneity Among Microhabitats Shapes the Diversity and Community Composition of Soil Eukaryotes in the Gurbantunggut Desert
The landscape of the drylands is characterized by patches of shrub plants and various successional stages of biocrusts, creating microhabitats that influence soil microbial communities. While previous studies have primarily focused on soil prokaryotes and a limited subset of eukaryotes—mainly fungi—a critical knowledge gap remains: the intrinsic effects of different microhabitat types on the diversity, community composition, and assembly processe…

Equity or efficiency? Impact of completion motivation on prosocial behavior preferences
Weight-adjusted waist index outperforms other obesity indices for cardiovascular disease prediction in cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic syndrome

Healthcare-seeking pathway and delay analysis of rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis patient in Southwestern China
This study visualizes RR-TB healthcare-seeking flows in economically underdeveloped areas of China. Though healthcare access is decent, diagnostic delays are notable, especially at under-resourced facilities. We should pay more attention to and enhance the RR-TB diagnostic capabilities of primary health facilities. While treatment pathways are simple, financial burdens might be a key issue. Reducing these burdens through multi-channel funding and…

The crowding out effect of financial incentives on conformity to pro-environmental social norms
Research has shown that financially incentivizing sustainable behaviors may undermine individuals’ conformity to pro-environmental social norms, but it remains unclear why and when such a crowding out effect occurs. Using data from a quasi-experiment in Quzhou, China, this study has tested crowding out in a local incentive program for household recycling and evaluated the causal mechanisms and boundary conditions of crowding out. The reward progr…
A think-aloud method of investigating translanguaging strategies in learning Chinese characters
Asian scripts that are significantly different from Roman-derived alphabets usually impose difficulties in learning. Translanguaging has therefore been explored as a pedagogical tool for the language classroom, including Chinese. While learning Chinese characters is thought to be one of the main challenges for students learning Chinese as a foreign language (CFL), there seems to be a paucity of up-to-date research into the strategies that adult s…

Liver enzymes and incident diabetes in China
BACKGROUND: Impaired liver function has been shown to be associated with incident diabetes. The independent role of the different liver enzymes, including γ-glutamyltransferase (GGT), alanine transaminase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST), has not been addressed properly, taking into account their high collinearity. We used partial least squares (PLS) regression to identify the contribution of ALT, AST and GGT, which appears causally associa…

Alcohol intake and death from cancer in a prospective Chinese elderly cohort study in Hong Kong
BACKGROUND: In observational studies of Western populations, moderate alcohol use is usually associated with lower cancer mortality rates. However, moderate alcohol use (regular drinking of moderate amounts) is socially patterned. Evidence from other contexts can clarify such observations. We examined the association of moderate alcohol use with death from cancer in older Chinese adults from a developed non-Western setting, where occasional alcoh…

The relationship between osteoporosis and body composition in pre- and postmenopausal women from different ethnic groups in China
BC and OP prevalence varied by menopausal status and ethnic group, and ethnic-specific relationships between BC and BMD were present in the four minorities. More research is needed to further investigate the ethnic differences in BC, OP, and risk factors for lower BMD to develop targeted prevention strategies to reduce the burden of OP across different ethnic groups in China
Financial barriers and coping strategies
Financial constraints were identified by TB and MDR-TB patients and health care professionals as the most pervasive barrier to care. Barriers appeared to be magnified for ethnic minorities and patients coming from rural areas, especially those with MDR-TB. To reduce financial barriers and improve treatment outcomes, there is a need for further research into the total costs of seeking and accessing TB and MDR-TB care. This will enable better asses…
Are global tuberculosis control targets overlooking an essential indicator? Prolonged delays to diagnosis despite high case detection rates in Yunnan, China
Delay in treating active tuberculosis (TB) impedes disease control by allowing ongoing transmission, and may explain the unexpectedly modest declines in global TB incidence. Even though China has achieved TB control targets under the global Directly Observed Treatment, Short course (DOTS) strategy, TB prevalence in western provinces, including Yunnan, is not decreasing. This cross-sectional study investigates whether prolonged delay in identifyin…

The semiotic interpretation of legal subjects in China’s new criminal procedure law
Semiotically, it is worth discussing some legal terminology that expresses the legal subjects in the criminal procedure law drawn up in 2012. In China’s new criminal procedure law, it can been seen that different legal concepts are adopted to refer to the same legal subject, while different legal subjects are referred to by the same legal concept. In Article 106 of the new criminal procedure law, “participants in the proceedings” means the partie…
