  • Envisioning Healthy Soil Futures

Open Access•Alexandra Judelsohn, Emmanuel Frimpong Boamah et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Planning Education and…•2025•Referencias: 6

Soil health is critical for healthy cities, yet little is known about how communities experience and address soil contamination. Contamination of soils can expose residents to heavy metals, which may have detrimental health effects. This study focuses on Buffalo, NY, using a mixed-methods approach to understand community experiences surrounding soil contaminants, planning, and policy. • State-mandated decentralized irrigation reforms

Open Access•Emmanuel Frimpong Boamah, Thomas Yeboah et al.•ARTICLE•Conservation Ecology•2025

The prospects and challenges of decentralized irrigation governance reforms are widely discussed. Less discussed, however, is the institutional design of these reforms and how and why it matters to our diagnosis of their successes or otherwise. We used and tested the state-reinforced self-governance (SRSG) framework to examine the institutional design of Ghana’s decentralized irrigation reform and whether self-governance capacities were granted t…

Open Access•Chihuangji Wang, Fuzhen Yin et al.•ARTICLE•ISPRS International Journal of…•2023

Smart City (SC) strategies developed by local governments reflect how governments and planners envision SC and apply smart technologies, and what challenges they face and try to address. Little attention, however, has been given to investigating SC strategies or applications, especially in the U.S. context. Moreover, there is insufficient attention paid to whether SC strategies address social issues such as equity and public participatory opportu…

Many low-income and minority-concentrated neighborhoods have been struggling for decades with the acute problem of endemic abandonment in shrinking cities. Using high-resolution spatial–temporal data, this study attempts to extend our understanding of the influence of abandonment on future abandonment and the impact of interventions such as demolition by identifying spatial patterns of housing abandonment and demolition in Buffalo, New York when …
