On the boundaries of ethnicity
Asian Americans commonly have rates of interracial marriage that indicate flexible racial boundaries, yet significant ethnic variation exists. As intermarriage produces growing numbers of multiracial Asian Americans blurring boundaries further, a significant question emerges: do ethnic distinctions persist when these offspring select spouses? Drawing upon the American Community Survey (2015–2019), we examine marriage patterns across six major Asi…
Development and validation of the Chinese dual Dawo (large self) scale (CDDS)
The “Most Familiar Stranger”
Since the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, anti-Asian racism has garnered scholarly attention worldwide. However, this literature focuses primarily on Asian panethnic frameworks in the North American context and obscures the significance of Sinophobia as a distinct facet of global anti-Asian racism across different societies. This oversight is consequential in Japan, where Chinese immigrants constitute the largest immigrant group and are increa…
White phosphorus munitions
White phosphorus (WP), a highly reactive and toxic substance, has been widely used in military applications. White phosphorus munitions (WPMs) embody a complex intersection of military utility and humanitarian concern, inflicting devastating injuries through their dual destructive mechanisms. These weapons induce severe thermal and chemical damage, penetrating deep into tissues to cause progressive necrosis and life-threatening systemic toxicity …
Implementation research on the intervention mode of “Comorbidity—Co-causes—Joint-prevention” comprehensive demonstration district of depression and obesity among children and adolescents in Beijing
Depression and obesity among adolescents have become major public health problems. They have common biological mechanisms and overlapping risk factors, such as lack of exercise, poor diet, and sleep disorders. Although there are corresponding interventions for these two diseases, there is still a lack of a comprehensive and systematic intervention approach to address their coexistence. The study will integrate existing intervention strategies and…

Discordant future climate-driven changes in winter PM2.5 pollution across India under a warming climate
India’s megacities have been suffering from frequent winter particulate matter (PM2.5) pollution episodes, and how impacts of meteorology on air quality will evolve with time under a warming climate remains a concern. In this study, we identified conducive meteorological weather conditions in 5 megacities across India and found that quantile regression models can better describe the meteorological impacts under high pollution level and capture mo…
There’s Something Very Wrong with the System in This Country”
Multiracial organizing since the 1980s has centered around the need to define and make visible the term multiracial (e.g., U.S. Census). In the contemporary era when multiple race populations are a growing and institutionally recognized demographic, how do multiracial organizations characterize and seek to combat collective experiences of racial marginalization? Here, we draw on in-depth interviews with officers from diverse multiracial organizat…
Becoming Asian (American)? Inter-ethnic differences in racial, ethnic, and American identities for Asian American adults
Asian Americans’ incorporation into American society is structured by interactions with a racial hierarchy that presents greater barriers for some ethnic groups more than others. The racialized assimilation framework predicts that experiences of discrimination shape incorporation into US society. This study investigates the impact of discrimination on the importance placed on three identities—racial, ethnic, American identity—relative to indicato…

Many different external factors shape Asian American identity. However, the effect of political elections on racial, ethnic, and national identities has been understudied. This research explores whether political elections represent moments of exogenous shock that can shape the importance of three different dimensions of identities for Asian Americans. This study uses data from the 2016 National Asian American Survey (n = 3,643) to test for a rel…
Determinants of Population-Based Cancer Screening Performance at Primary Healthcare Institutions in China
Primary healthcare institutions in China perform better in colorectal than in breast and cervical cancer screening, and institutions in rural districts perform better than institutions in urban districts. Increasing the number of staff members on breast and cervical cancer screening could improve the performance of population-based cancer screening
