  • Show Us a Kiss!’

    Open Access•Gemma L Witcomb, Charlotte Cooper•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2023•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 11

This study explored the experiences of lesbian, bisexual, and queer (LBQ) students' ( N = 9, aged 19-24) of sexual harassment via semistructured interviews. Data were analysed using a thematic analysis. Three overarching themes emerged: (a) the paradox of men's unwanted sexual attention, (b) the negative impact on relationships, and (c) the LGBTQ* community as a refuge. The women reported enduring unwanted heteronormative sexual attention, and he…

  • A Queer and Trans Fat Activist Timeline

    Charlotte Cooper•ARTICLE•Fat Studies•2012

A Queer and Trans Fat Activist Timeline is a project located in multiple spaces that began as an attempt to co-create a snapshot of community history. The timeline began as a conference workshop, became an object produced by that workshop, and then transformed into other entities: something that could be discussed and remodeled into multiple forms, on- and offline, and into archival objects. It originated as a fat activist dialogue with community…

  • Fat Studies

    Open Access•Charlotte Cooper•ARTICLE•Sociology Compass•2010•Citada por: 58•Referencias: 26

An extensive body of literature concerning obesity already exists, but this paper seeks to map the field of an emerging body of work that is critical of that dominant discourse. Although it has been most recently mobilised by the rhetoric of an assumed global obesity epidemic, or moral panic around fatness, Fat Studies has an extensive history and interdisciplinary literature which questions and problematises traditional understandings of obesity…

  • Swing It Baby

    Charlotte Cooper•ARTICLE•Journal of Bisexuality•2003•Citada por: 2

This essay argues that swingers who practice bi and trans behaviour are a significant part of the BT population but are often marginalized by traditional LGBT players. It discusses some of the reasons for their exclusion in an attempt to create a more open, flexible, honest and welcoming notion of what it is to be B, T, L or G

  • Can a Fat Woman Call Herself Disabled

    Charlotte Cooper•ARTICLE•Disability & Society•1997•Citada por: 13•Referencias: 1

As an ostensibly able-bodied fat woman I discuss my experimental usage of 'disabled' to self-define, asserting that this is a problematic label. I criticise some of the mutual misconceptions fat and disabled people share, especially the role of medicalisation, and I explore some similarities and differences in our respective struggles for civil rights. I suggest that identifying as disabled is political in origin, and that disability politics off…
