La paternite attribuee finalement a Jean Rousset (1686-1762) demeure peu fiable car elle ne prend pas en compte la tradition manuscrite du traite, dont la premiere edition remonte au moins a l'annee 1700, et qui ensuite connut de multiples avatars avant de se fixer dans l'edition de 1768 donnee par Marc-Michel Ray et souvent reeditee ensuite
