  • Acute effect of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise on state anxiety and anger symptoms evoked by aversive stimuli in young women

Open Access•Mila Alves de Matos Rodrigues, Mila Alves Matos Rodrigues et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2026

BACKGROUND: Aerobic exercise is widely recognized for its acute anxiolytic and mood-regulating effects, typically demonstrated in neutral emotional contexts. However, it remains unclear whether such effects are preserved when exercise is performed concurrently with emotionally aversive stimuli, a situation that more closely mirrors real-world stress conditions. OBJECTIVE: To examine whether a single session of moderate-intensity continuous aerobi…

  • Cardiorespiratory fitness is associated with lower anger and anxiety and higher emotional resilience

  • A Single Session of Beach Tennis with Recreational Athletes Improves Anxiety Symptoms in Women but Not in Men

Open Access•João Victor Rosa de Freitas, Bráulio Evangelista de Lima et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2024

Beach tennis demonstrated an anxiolytic effect in women, with significant reductions in anxiety symptoms following both singles and doubles sessions. However, no such effects were observed in men. These findings suggest that beach tennis could be a viable intervention for managing anxiety symptoms in women. The study was registered in the Brazilian Clinical Trials Registry (registration code: U1111-1293-7949)

  • Skeletal muscle mass in female athletes

Open Access•Takashi Abe, Vickie Wong et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2020

Objectives To examine the absolute and relative skeletal muscle mass (SM) in female athletes and to discuss the potential upper limit of whole‐body muscle mass between large sized female and male athletes. Methods Forty‐five female athletes and forty‐five recreationally active females (control) had muscle thickness measured by ultrasound at nine sites on the anterior and posterior aspects of the body. SM was estimated from an ultrasound‐derived p…

  • Influence of sex and resistance training status on orofacial muscle strength and morphology in healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 40

Open Access•Takashi Abe, Vickie Wong et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2020

OBJECTIVE: To compare the orofacial muscle strength and facial muscle thickness between resistance-trained and non-resistance trained men and women. METHODS: Resistance-trained (25 men and 22 women) and non-resistance trained (21 men and 30 women) adults (18-40 years) had standard measurements of orofacial muscle strength (ie, anterior tongue elevation, cheek compression, and lip compression) and ultrasound measurements of facial muscle thickness…

  • Interval Training Improves Depressive Symptoms But Not Anxious Symptoms in Healthy Women

Ricardo Borges Viana, Paulo Gentil et al.

We compared the effects of two different interval training protocols [sprint interval training (SIT) and high-intensity interval training (HIIT)] on depressive and anxious symptoms in healthy women. Metho…
