  • The devious roads of science

    Open Access•N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•Synthese•1963•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

  • Human Behavior and the Principle of Least Effort.George Kingsley Zipf

    N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•American Journal of Sociology•1951

  • Cybernetics or Control and Communication in the Animal and the Machine.Norbert Wiener

    N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•American Journal of Sociology•1950

  • Note on the Mathematical Theory of Interaction of Social Classes

    Open Access•N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•Psychometrika•1941

In continuation of previous studies, the interreaction of two social classes is investigated from a somewhat different point of view. An exchange of results of activities of the two classes is considered, and a mathematical approach is outlined based on the use of such psychological concepts as the satisfaction function

  • On the Variation of the Structure of a Social Group with Time

    Open Access•N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•Psychometrika•1941

A case studied in a previous paper, concerning the changes of the relative number of individuals of different types in a social group, is treated under more general assumptions. It is shown that under those more general conditions periodical fluctuations in the structure of the social group may occur

  • On the Mutual Influence of Individuals in a Social Group

    Open Access•N Rashevsky, Alston S Householder•ARTICLE•Psychometrika•1941

A previous mathematical study of a situation, in which the behavior of a larger group of individuals is controlled by a smaller group, is generalized for the case when the “activity” of the individuals in the group is continuously graded. The existence of two possible social configurations and of sudden transitions from one configuration to another are found in this case also

  • Studies in Mathematical Theory of Human Relations

    Open Access•N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•Psychometrika•1939

In continuation of previous studies, an abstract mathematical theory is developed for the interaction of several social classes, of which one influences and controls the behavior of the others. In some cases such interaction results in the existence of two configurations of equilibrium for the social structure, characterized by different types of behavior. Each configuration corresponds to one definite type of behavior. The transition from one co…

  • The Biophysics of Space and Time

    Open Access•N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•Philosophy of Science•1935

In studying various possible physico-chemical interpretations of biological phenomena we arrived by a systematical development of what we have called “Mathematical Biophysics” at the interpretation of even such complex phenomena, as those involved in learning, Gestalt-discrimination and Gestalt-transposition. Yet, in spite of the apparent progress made along this newly trodden road, a sophisticated mind may feel that we are advancing into a pecul…

  • Outline of a Mathematical Theory of Human Relations

    Open Access•N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•Philosophy of Science•1935

In our previous writings we have outlined a mathematical theory of biological phenomena. In our systematic construction of “mathematical biology,” similar in its aims to mathematical physics, we have started with the fundamental unit,—the living cell. After having established a physico-mathematical theory of the fundamental properties of the cell, we have studied the interaction of several cells. This led us into two different fields. On the one …

  • Outline of a Physico-Mathematical Theory of the Brain

    N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1935

Ensem…

  • Physico-Mathematical Aspects of the Gestalt-Problem

    Open Access•N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•Philosophy of Science•1934

Following the general program, outlined in a previous paper on the Foundations of Mathematical Biophysics, we shall outline some physico-mathematical aspects of the Gestalt-problem. Faithful to the principles laid down before, we shall not attempt to give a theory of such and such psycho-physiological phenomena connected with our problem, but we shall investigate in a preliminary way the abstract conceptual basis , which must underlie the constru…

  • Foundations of Mathematical Biophysics

    Open Access•N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•Philosophy of Science•1934•Citada por: 1

Mathematical methods in biology occupy a somewhat peculiar position, and the attitude of many biologists toward them is similar to that of many practical engineers toward what is called pure scientific research. The modern progressive engineer recognizes the value of pure science, which seeks for truth regardless of any possibility of practical applications; yet he still frequently shows a definite dislike towards such investigations. The whole h…

  • Learning as a Property of Physical Systems

    N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1931•Citada por: 1

  • Possible Brain Mechanisms and Their Physical Models

    N Rashevsky•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1931•Citada por: 1
