    This article responds to a plea for economic geographers to play greater attention to the world's resource peripheries. The article presents a detailed case study of oil and gas development offshore of Sakhalin in the Russian Far East. The study serves to illustrate the complexity of resource peripheries and to demonstrate how a critical approach to resource geographies aids economic geographic theorization of globalization.     This report covers the period January 2004–December 2004. We are pleased to report another good year for the journal. During the calendar year 2004 the Journals Office handled 85 new submissions, compared to 81 in 2003, there were 24 resubmissions and 98 papers were at various stages of review and revision. In total 183 submissions were active during the year. During the year 45 papers were accepted, 25 required minor revision, 40 major revisions…

    This was my last RGS-IBG Annual Meeting before I hand over to Alastair Bonnett. As the meeting was cocooned within the UK-IGC Meetings in Glasgow it was a rather different event.     This report covers the period January 2003–December 2003. This has been yet another good year for Area. During the calendar year 2003, the Journals Office handled 81 new submissions, and 16 submissions were still active from the previous year.
