Salutogenesis and the Prevention of Social Death
Combining trans-disciplinary theories with cross-cultural ethnographic research, this paper explores community-based approaches to genocide prevention among Canadian-Indigenous groups as well as with Rwandan student genocide survivors. Bare Nature and the Genocide–Ecocide Nexus—The Conditions of General Threat and the Hope of Cultural Adaptation
This article develops the concept of bare nature by examining the interdependent and underlying conditions that make genocidal and ecocidal processes possible. Agamben identifies states of exception as a juridical key to understanding the legitimating logic that facilitate acts of arbitrary exclusion, targeted killing, and the life and death policy decisions that affect large segments of the population. The role of the International Fund for Ireland and the European Union Peace II Fund is examined through the perspectives of a public opinion poll of 1,023 of Northern Ireland's citizens, and interviews with 98 community groups, civil servants, and development officers.
