  • International investment agreements and foreign direct investment

Open Access•Peter Egger, Alain Pirotte et al.•ARTICLE•World Economy•2023

This paper reviews the relationship between international investment agreements (IIAs) and foreign direct investment (FDI). It is organised in two parts. The first part explores the generic structure of IIAs and highlights the components that are particularly relevant to FDI. It then gives an overview of the specific content of investment treaties using a representative treaty sample over the period 1980–2020. The second part is devoted to survey…

  • Spatial lag models with nested random effects

  • Determinants of Urban Sprawl in France

    Open Access•Alain Pirotte, Jean-Loup Madre et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•2011•Citada por: 9•Referencias: 66

This paper studies the determinants of urban sprawl in France using panel datasets for the four largest metropolitan areas (Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Lille) over the period 1985–98. A measure of urban sprawl is proposed at municipality level. Due to the huge heterogeneity of the panels, it seems difficult to make the fundamental homogeneity assumption underlying pooled models. Thus, random coefficient models under heteroscedasticity of the disturba…

  • The Early Years of Panel Data Econometrics

    Ariane Dupont-Kieffer, Alain Pirotte•ARTICLE•History of Political Economy•2011•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 32

This essay focuses on the early years of panel data econometrics and two seminal papers by Yair Mundlak (1961) and Pietro Balestra and Marc Nerlove (1966). The issue of latent individual heterogeneity was identified as a central problem. One main ambition was to get a clear understanding of how differences in behavior across individuals and/or through time could and should be modeled. Another main aspect was the assumed inherent dynamic pattern o…
