Exploring the Frontier of Chinese Ethnic Minority Education
Xing Teng has spearheaded ethnic minority education and educational anthropology in China. As a member of the Han majority and an ally to ethnic minority groups, he has endeavored to open space for ethnic minority education in China. I sat down with Professor Teng in the summer of 2018. This chapter analyzes the challenges and opportunities encountered when the fieldwork conducted in Taiwan&s;s satellite factories in the summer of 1989. The Politics of Rebuilding Chinese Sociology in 1980s
Chinese sociology was denounced and abolished as "bourgeois science" for more than a quarter of a century (1952-1979). This article examines the politics of rebuilding Chinese sociology. Examining lectures, reports, and essays associated with the first three officially approved research projects (1981-1986), I clarify why the quantitative paradigm was embraced by sociologists at the expense of qualitative inquiry.
