Male Electorate and Electoral Mandates
This study examines the role of the male electorate in determining electoral outcomes in Sarawak's state elections from 2006 through 2021. In doing so, it addresses a gap in the literature: previous work has highlighted gender-specific turnout effects (e.g., strong associations between female turnout and victory margins), but the specific influence of the male electorate has not been separately quantified. Using official constituency-level data f…

Rapid urbanization in Malaysia has shaped a complex property crime landscape, especially in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. This study examines the relationship between urban land use and property crime (2015–2020) using spatial analysis, particularly Getis-Ord Gi* hot spot analysis. By categorizing 12 land use types and analyzing four daily timeframes, it identifies crime-prone areas and temporal trends. Findings highlight land use influences on crim…
Mapping Danger Zones
This study investigates the spatial and temporal dynamics of assault crimes involving dangerous weapons under Section 324 of the Malaysian Penal Code, focusing on Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from 2015 to 2020. The research addresses the critical issue of understanding urban crime patterns to inform effective preventive measures. Using a geographic information system (GIS)-based methodology, the study employs spatial autocorrelation (Global Moran's…
Aging in Motion
The global rise in aging populations is reshaping urban landscapes, particularly in Southeast Asia. In Malaysia, Sarawak is projected to become an aging state by 2028, but the spatial patterns of senior citizen distribution remain underexplored, especially in the context of long-term urbanization. Despite the growing need for age-inclusive planning, little is known about how urban growth affects senior citizen density in diverse regions like Sara…
Deciphering Property Crime Through OLS Regression
This study explores the correlation between property crime and demographic factors in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya using spatial autocorrelation (SA) and ordinary least squares (OLS) regression from 2015 to 2020. The 2016 SA analysis shows a significant increase in Moran's I index (0.012905), with a positive z-score of 2.020088 and a p value of 0.043374, indicating spatial clustering of crime. The study examines how factors like total population, h…
Unveiling urban violence crime in the State of the Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya
This study investigates the intricate relationship between violent criminal activities, temporal patterns, and land utilization across Selangor State, Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory (KLFT), and Putrajaya Federal Territory (PFT), Malaysia, spanning from 2015 to 2020. Employing the Hot Spot (Getis-Ord Gi*) technique within a GIS framework, the research contributes to data storage and map generation, enhancing the capabilities of entities such as th…

Factors associated with the occurrence of injuries requiring hospital transfer among older and working-age pedestrians in Kurume, Japan
To reduce severe pedestrian injuries among older people, improvement of road infrastructure in areas with wider roads, higher socioeconomic status and higher aging rates is required
Impact of Drainage Networks on Cholera Outbreaks in Lusaka, Zambia
Objectives. We investigated the association between precipitation patterns and cholera outbreaks and the preventative roles of drainage networks against outbreaks in Lusaka, Zambia. Methods. We collected data on 6542 registered cholera patients in the 2003–2004 outbreak season and on 6045 cholera patients in the 2005–2006 season. Correlations between monthly cholera incidences and amount of precipitation were examined. The distribution pattern of…
