In this study, we analyze the calls for action in a corpus of tweets with the hashtag #FashionRevolution, related to the 2020 Fashion Revolution week. We offer a linguistic analysis of the discourse of digital activism, relying on insights from pragmatics, discourse analysis, and argumentation. Our analysis focuses on the calls for action concerning the move towards a more sustainable fashion system, issued by account owners that do not have any …

  • Experience and performance type modify anticipatory stress in musicians

Open Access•Jay Campisi, Alex Guy et al.•ARTICLE•Psychology of Music•2024

We examined the anticipatory stress response in musicians before a day of rehearsal and a concert and examined if experience levels modulated physiological and perception of stress responses. Twenty members of a professional orchestra had their heart rate (HR), blood pressure (BP), and galvanic skin response/conductance (GSR) measured as well as self-assessment of their anxiety surrounding their performance. Examining a multilingual dataset of Twitter and Instagram messages posted by a variety of actors (NGOs and individual activists, small brands, and others) during the 2020 and 2021 Fashion Revolution Week campaigns for a more sustainable fashion system, we analyze frequently occurring discursive representations and self-representations that include individual mentions of persons or small brands. We show that individual mentions are mostly proposed…

  • Adding a temporal dimension to the analysis of argumentative discourse

    Open Access•Greco, Sara Greco et al.•ARTICLE•Discourse Studies•2018•Referencias: 19

This article seeks to extend existing models of argumentation by considering an important dimension of real-life argumentative discourse: how complex argumentative discussions evolve over time. We define a complex argumentative discussion as a multi-issue discussion, in which the different issues are interrelated in the form of a hierarchy. We claim that justified reframing might be used to transform a single-issue argumentative discussion into a…

  • The semiotics of migrants' food

    Open Access•Greco, Sara Greco•ARTICLE•Semiotica•2016•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 10

This paper sets out to analyze cultural semiotics of migrants' food and culinary practices. Moving from the perspective of the Tartu school of semiotics, which views culture both as a grammar (a set of codes) and as a set of texts, food can be characterized as a specific cultural element where grammar and text (code and experience) are woven together. International migrants live one or more ruptures and changes in their status quo due to their ad…
