Depressive symptoms mediate the association between loneliness and cognitive performance in women living with HIV
Loneliness is a risk factor for cognitive impairment, yet, its role in domain-specific cognitive performance and underlying mechanisms remain understudied in women living with HIV (WLWH). To assess whether depressive symptoms mediate associations between loneliness and global and domain-specific cognition, data were analyzed from 1621 WLWH participating in the Women's Interagency HIV Study, a multicenter, observational cohort conducted in the Uni…
Community Engagement Strategy for Building Trust in Human Challenge Studies Using Participatory and Creative Methods
Human Infection Challenge studies (HICs) are crucial for advancing global understanding of disease pathogenesis, immune responses, and accelerating vaccine and drug development. Explorations on willingness to participate among medical students revealed the need to ensure full understanding of HIC requirements, for example, for residency, by the broader community. This raised the question of ‘How could we ensure informed and understood consent for…

Social capital and uptake of primary healthcare during protracted displacement
The world's refugee populations primarily reside in low- and middle-income countries, where they face protracted displacement and limited financial and human capital. Social capital is among the few assets they can leverage for resilience. Despite its importance, few studies have examined how social capital influences the uptake of healthcare services during protracted displacement. This study examines the associations of refugee with access to m…
Disentangling depression in women with diabetes
While preliminary, our findings suggest that associations between inflammatory biomarkers and depression may not be consistent across all depressive measures or symptom dimensions. Although larger samples with repeated measures are needed, findings from this exploratory study suggest that including inflammatory measures beyond hsCRP and IL-6, together with tools that capture distinct depressive symptom dimensions, may help to inform future precis…
Using the Framework for Reporting Adaptation and Modifications-Expanded (FRAME) to Adapt an Evidence-Based HIV-Prevention Intervention for Zambian Adolescent Girls and Young Women
Despite substantial global efforts, adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Southern Africa remain disproportionately affected by HIV. In Zambia, the HIV prevalence among AGYW is nearly three times that of their male peers. The Informed Motivated Aware and Responsible Adolescents and Adults (IMARA) program, an evidence-based HIV/STI prevention intervention initially developed in the United States and later adapted in South Africa, demonstrated…
