  • On the State of American Jewish Literary Studies, 2010–2020

Josh Lambert, Alex Ullman•ARTICLE•Studies in American Jewish…•2025

In 2022, a graduate student surveyed the field of American Jewish literary studies, building a data set to share with researchers. This article offers a set of observations and questions raised by that data, with the aim of sharing the data with colleagues. Our hope is to inspire scholars to examine this data—which we are also making available—and to use it to assess the state of the field and perhaps even offer proposals for the field’s future d…

  • The Last of Us, Part 2 and the Christian Limits of "Jewish Representation" in Corporate Art

    Josh Lambert•ARTICLE•Jewish Social Studies•2025

In this article I present a case study of one of the most massively popular, hugely expensive, and globally influential works of culture ever made, the video game The Last of Us, Part 2 (2020), with particular attention to its creators' deliberate effort to offer "Jewish representation" to its audiences. I survey contemporary discourse about "Jewish representation" and Jewishness in video games, and attend in detail to the strategies of this part…

  • The Eddie Cantor Story

    Open Access•Josh Lambert•ARTICLE•Journal of American History•2019

Among its many other virtues, David Weinstein's thorough, incisive biographical study of Cantor, focusing on his political activism and fund raising, implicitly explains why Cantor ended up as the butt …

  • The Sound of “New Jews”

    Josh Lambert•ARTICLE•Studies in American Jewish…•2016•Referencias: 1

This essay reads the “soundwork”—radio and podcast writing and performance—of two Canadian Jews, David Rakoff and Jonathan Goldstein, as exemplary cases of the representational patterns scholars attending to American popular culture since the 1990s have recently begun to analyze under the rubric of “New Jews.” Focusing particularly on work that has been broadcast on the popular radio shows/podcasts This American Life (1995–) and WireTap with Jona…
