Depressive symptoms, sleep-wake features, and insomnia among female students
Depression symptoms are prevalent among nursing students, especially those in Asia. This study assessed the association between rumination and depression symptoms among female nursing students ( N = 148) and the chain mediation role of sleep-wake indexes and insomnia symptoms. The data were collected from a battery of questionnaires and consecutive 7-day actigraphy data for analyzing sleep-wake indexes. About 54.1% of the participants had either …
Northern Hemisphere Urban Heat Stress and Associated Labor Hour Hazard from ERA5 Reanalysis
Increasing surface air temperature is a fundamental characteristic of a warming world. Rising temperatures have potential impacts on human health through heat stress. One heat stress metric is the wet-bulb globe temperature, which takes into consideration the effects of radiation, humidity, and wind speed. It also has broad health and environmental implications. This study presents wet-bulb globe temperatures calculated from the fifth-generation …
Parent supervision attributes profile questionnaire (PSAPQ) for young children
Due to the unacceptable convergent validity of the C-PSAPQ, an exploratory factor analysis is needed to ensure that the same trait is measured by its indicators in different cultures
Social Ecology of Adherence to Hypertension Treatment in Latino Migrant and Seasonal Farmworkers
Purpose: This study explored Latino migrant/seasonal farmworkers’ (MSFWs’) adherence to hypertension treatment. Design: A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted. Method: Forty-five Latino MSFWs from two farmworker health clinics completed Spanish versions of the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale, the Blood Pressure Knowledge Scale and Blood Pressure Self-Care Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale, the Acculturation Rating Scale for Mexica…
A Mixed Methods Study of Health Care Experience Among Asian Indians in the Southeastern United States
Purpose: The study explored health care experiences among Asian Indian immigrants living in the Southeastern United States. Design and Method: A concurrent triangulation mixed methods design was used with a purposive sample of 125 Asian Indian immigrants aged between 40 and 64 years in the survey and 10 participants in the focus group. Results: The majority of the participants had health insurance and higher socioeconomic status. They had a moder…
Stress and Sleep Disturbances in Female College Students
Interventions to reduce stress and improve sleep are critically needed in college education
Stress and health-related well-being among mothers with a low birth weight infant
Research Strategies
Given the increasing population of Asian Americans in the United States, there is an urgent need for culturally and linguistically sensitive and appropriate research to validate research findings, particularly with respect to health care. Although increasing attention is being focused on ethnic minority-group studies, few research reports concentrate on research strategies with respect to Asian American populations. This article describes the imp…
Validating the General Sleep Disturbance Scale Among Chinese American Parents With Hospitalized Infants
The purpose of this cross-sectional descriptive study was to assess the reliability and validity of the English and Chinese versions of the General Sleep Disturbance Scale (GSDS) among Chinese American parents with hospitalized infants. A convenience sample of 22 mothers and 22 fathers in the San Francisco area participated in this study. Cronbach alpha coefficients were .85 and .81 for the English and Chinese versions, respectively. Concurrent v…
