  • Autonomic Effects of Expressive Writing in Individuals with Elevated Blood Pressure

    Open Access•Kimberly M Beckwith Mcguire, K Mcguire et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2005•Referencias: 33

We evaluated systolic and diastolic blood pressure, heart rate variability and skin conductance at basline, and 1 and 4 months in 38 participants with elevated blood pressure, randomly assigned to expressive writing or control groups. There was a significant interaction such that the very low frequency wave of heart rate variability increased over time only in controls, suggesting potentially protective buffering in expressive writing. Systolic a…

  • Emotional expression and physical heath

Melanie A Greenberg, Camille B Wortman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1996•Citada por: 13•Referencias: 3

Health benefits derived from personal trauma disclosure are well established. Yoked real-trauma and imaginary-trauma participants wrote about real-trauma p…

    Melanie A Greenberg, Arthur A Stone•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1992•Citada por: 13

This study sought to replicate previous findings that disclosing traumas improves physical health and to compare the effects of revealing previously disclosed versus undisclosed traumas. According to inhibition theory, reporting about undisclosed traumas should produce greater health benefits. Sixty healthy undergraduates wrote about undisclosed traumas, previously disclosed traumas, or trivial events. Contrary to expectations, there were no sign…

  • Self-report, situation-specific coping questionnaires

Arthur A Stone, Melanie A Greenberg et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•1991•Citada por: 10

Self-report, situation-specific assessments of coping, such as the Ways of Coping Scale (WOC), have been used frequently in recent years. Several potential issues in the development and use of these questionnaires have been identified, including the applicability of coping items to different kinds of stressful events, the definition of the period for which Ss report coping efforts, and the meaning of the "extent" response key that is used for rep…
