  • Sars-CoV-2 Transmissibility Within Day Care Centers—Study Protocol of a Prospective Analysis of Outbreaks in Germany

Open Access•Anja Schienkiewitz, Susanne Jordan et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2021

Introduction: Until today, the role of children in the transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 and the development of the COVID-19 pandemic seems to be dynamic and is not finally resolved. The primary aim of this study is to investigate the transmission dynamics of SARS-CoV-2 in child day care centers and connected households as well as transmission-related indicators and clinical symptoms among children and adults. Methods and Analysis: COALA (“Coro…

  • Longitudinal Analysis of Work-to-Family Conflict and Self-Reported General Health among Working Parents in Germany

Open Access•Lea-Sophie Borgmann, Petra Rattay et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

The combination of work and family roles can lead to work-to-family conflict (WTFC), which may have consequences for the parents' health. We examined the association between WTFC and self-reported general health among working parents in Germany over time. Data were drawn from wave 6 (2013) and wave 8 (2015) of the German family and relationship panel. It included working persons living together with at least one child in the household (791 mother…

  • Subjective social status and health

    Open Access•Jens Hoebel, Thomas Lampert•ARTICLE•Journal of Health Psychology•2020•Citada por: 28•Referencias: 59

Since the early 2000s, evidence has been accumulating that subjective social status - a person's sense of their own position on the social ladder - affects health above and beyond objective socioeconomic status. To date, however, little is known about how these distinct health effects of subjective social status can be explained. This article narratively reviews different explanatory approaches and key methodological challenges, backed up by empi…

  • Socioeconomic status, stressful life situations and mental health problems in children and adolescents

    Open Access•Franziska Reiß, Ann-Katrin Meyrose et al.•ARTICLE•PLoS ONE•2019

AIM: Children and adolescents with low socioeconomic status (SES) suffer from mental health problems more often than their peers with high SES. The aim of the current study was to investigate the direct and interactive association between commonly used indicators of SES and the exposure to stressful life situations in relation to children's mental health problems. METHODS: The prospective BELLA cohort study is the mental health module of the repr…

  • Work-family conflict, self-reported general health and work-family reconciliation policies in Europe

Open Access•Lea-Sophie Borgmann, Lars Eric Kroll et al.•ARTICLE•SSM - Population Health•2019

The increasing labor market participation of women in Europe leads to many women and men having to reconcile paid work with family work and thus reporting work-family conflict (WFC). WFC is related to different dimensions of health. In the present article, we analyzed the role different reconciliation policies among European countries may play regarding WFC and its association with self-reported health. The analyses are based on data from Eurofou…

  • Intergenerational Educational Pathways and Self-Rated Health in Adolescence and Young Adulthood

Open Access•Julia Waldhauer, Benjamin Kuntz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2019

Health differences in social mobility are often analysed by income differences or different occupational positions. However, in early adulthood many young people still have very diffuse income situations and are not always fully integrated into the labour market despite many having finished school. This article focusses on the link between intergenerational educational pathways and self-rated health (SRH) among young adults considering their SRH …

  • Socioeconomic Inequalities in Health and Perceived Unmet Needs for Healthcare among the Elderly in Germany

Open Access•Jens Hoebel, Alexander Rommel et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017

Research into health inequalities in the elderly population of Germany is relatively scarce. This study examines socioeconomic inequalities in health and perceived unmet needs for healthcare and explores the dynamics of health inequalities with age among elderly people in Germany. Data were derived from the Robert Koch Institute's cross-sectional German Health Update study. The sample was restricted to participants aged 50-85 years ( n = 11,811).…

  • Changing educational inequalities in sporting inactivity among adults in Germany

Open Access•Jens Hoebel, Jonas D Finger et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

The findings suggest that the gap in sports participation between adults with high and low educational attainment has widened in both absolute and relative terms because of an increase in sports participation among the better educated. Health-enhancing physical activity interventions specifically targeted to less-educated younger adults are needed to prevent future increases in social inequalities in health

  • Social disparities in parental smoking and young children’s exposure to secondhand smoke at home

    Open Access•Benjamin Kuntz, Thomas Lampert•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2016

The results of the KiGGS study show that the proportion of children in Germany who are exposed to SHS at home has declined significantly over the last few years. There is much to suggest that the smoke-free legislation that has been introduced in Germany has led to a heightened awareness of the health risks of SHS both in public and in the private sphere, as well as to a denormalization of smoking. Children whose parents smoke, and among them par…

  • Relation between Overweight/Obesity and Self-Rated Health Among Adolescents in Germany. Do Socio-Economic Status and Type of School Have an Impact on That Relation

    Open Access•Laura Krause, Thomas Lampert•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2015

This study investigates the relation between overweight/obesity and self-rated health (SRH), and whether this relation varies by social factors. Data was taken from the German Health Interview and Examination Survey for Children and Adolescents (KiGGS, baseline 2003‒2006). For the definition of overweight and obesity, body mass index was calculated based on standardized height and weight measurements. SRH of adolescents (n = 6813, 11‒17 years) wa…

  • Dietary behaviour and parental socioeconomic position among adolescents

Open Access•Jonas D Finger, Gianni Varnaccia et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

A high PSEP is associated with consumption of less energy-dense food, more fruits and vegetables and more favourable overall dietary behaviour. Preferably school-based interventions are needed to promote healthy dietary behaviour among German adolescents and a special effort is needed to reach adolescents from low-PSEP families

  • Determinants of health check attendance in adults

Open Access•Jens Hoebel, Anne Starker et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2014

The findings of this study suggest that people with an unfavourable risk factor profile, such as socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, smokers, physically inactive people, and persons with a low fruit and vegetable intake, are less likely to have health checks than those with a more favourable risk profile. Health checks carried out in the primary care setting should be evaluated for their effects on population health and health inequality

  • Educational Differences in Smoking among Adolescents in Germany

    Open Access•Benjamin Kuntz, Thomas Lampert•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2013

Our results show that the risk of an adolescent smoking is influenced by their own education level rather than that of their parents. Educational upward mobility seems to be protective against becoming a smoker in youth. Boys who experience downward mobility tend to have a significantly higher inclination to smoke than their peers with a stable high education. These findings illustrate the potential public health benefits of investments in educat…

  • Physical activity patterns and socioeconomic position

Open Access•Jonas D Finger, Thorkild Tylleskär et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

In Germany adults with a lower level of education are more physically active, both at work and overall, compared to adults with a higher education level, although they are less physically active in their leisure time. Higher work-related activity levels among adults with lower education may explain why they are less active in their leisure time

  • Soziale Ungleichheit und Risiken der Erwerbsminderung

Christine Hagen, Ralf K Himmelreicher et al.•ARTICLE•WSI-Mitteilungen•2011

    Susanne Seyda, Thomas Lampert•ARTICLE•Sozialer Fortschritt•2010

    Angela Neumeyer-Gromen, Angela Neumeyer‐Gromen et al.•ARTICLE•Medical Care•2004•Referencias: 35

BACKGROUND: Substantial deficits in the care of depression make the provision of new evidence-based care models a matter of increasing importance. So far, disease management programs (DMPs) have not been systematically assessed. OBJECTIVE: This study was a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials investigating the effectiveness of DMP for depression as compared with usual primary care. METHODS: Criteria for study select…
