  • Peeling Back Another Layer of Yourself”

    Open Access•Wanda Fischera, Amy Lucas et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Psychologica•2025•Referencias: 39

This study reports an interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) of disclosure experiences of people with maladaptive daydreaming (MD). Maladaptive daydreaming is characterised by distress and dysfunction due to long periods of immersion in fantasies that are fanciful and compulsive. MD has been shown to be a highly isolating experience whereby people with MD often feel lonely and are secretive about their fantasising, reducing opportunities …

  • Pushed Together or Pulled Apart? Economic Stressors and Romantic Relationship Quality

    Open Access•Amy Lucas, Jessica Halliday Hardie et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Perspectives•2021•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 52

Previous research indicates that romantic partners' relationship quality is associated with poverty and material hardship. Few studies have used longitudinal data to incorporate changing economic circumstances over time, included a range of economic factors, or investigated the role of social support in this association, however. Using five waves of data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study, we extend prior work by evaluating the a…

  • Intersectional patterns of prejudice confrontation by White, heterosexual, and cisgender allies

    Open Access•Kim A Case, Desdamona Rios et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Issues•2020•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 55

Scholarship produced by psychologists typically focuses on one area of social identity and oppression per study (e.g., only sexism) with very little intersectional analysis across systemic oppression and privilege. To better understand the intersecting patterns of ally behavior, we examined online confrontation behavior by privileged individuals in response to antigay, antitransgender, and racist comments. Study 1 explored rates and types of conf…

  • The immigrant experience

    Amy Lucas, Stephen M Cherry•ARTICLE•Sociological Spectrum•2016•Referencias: 16

Although there is extensive scholarship that examines differences in family behaviors and attitudes between whites and blacks, there are very few studies that examine these differences across whites, blacks, Latinos, and Asians in the United States. In the current study, we do so by examining data from the 2011 Houston Area Survey. We explore Houstonians’ likelihood of engaging in interracial relationships, attitudes toward working mothers, and a…

  • Faith against the storm

    Open Access•Stephen M Cherry, Amy Lucas•ARTICLE•Social Compass•2016•Referencias: 30

Hurricane Katrina forced one of the largest internal migrations of people in US history. Among the evacuees were 28,000 Filipino Americans many of whom fled to Houston. In a short period of time, Filipino American Catholic Houstonians relocated their co-ethnics with host families, facilitated documents needed for US federal aid (FEMA), provided material assistance, and addressed evacuee medical needs through the establishment and staffing of a cr…

  • His and Hers

Open Access•Jessica Halliday Hardie, Claudia Geist et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Marriage and the Family•2014•Citada por: 17•Referencias: 46

Research has linked economic factors to relationship quality in the United States, primarily using cross-sectional data. In the current study, 2 waves of the Panel Analysis of Intimate Relationships and Family Dynamics data (n = 2,937) were used to test the gendered association between economic factors and relationship satisfaction among young German couples. In contrast to U.S.-based studies, the findings showed striking gender differences in th…

  • Economic Factors and Relationship Quality Among Young Couples

Open Access•Jessica Halliday Hardie, Amy Lucas•ARTICLE•Journal of Marriage and the Family•2010•Citada por: 46•Referencias: 47

Are economic resources related to relationship quality among young couples, and to what extent does this vary by relationship type? To answer these questions, we estimated regression models predicting respondent reports of conflict and affection in cohabiting and married partner relationships using the National Longitudinal Study of Youth, 1997 (NLSY97, N = 2,841) and the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health (Add Health, N = 1,702). W…

  • DNA Collection in a Randomized Social Science Study of College Peer Effects

    Open Access•G Guo, Jessica Halliday Hardie et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methodology•2009•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 2

We describe the DNA collection processes of an initial pilot and full study, which is designed to investigate joint peer and genetic effects on health behaviors and attitudes in a college campus setting. In the main study, 2664 (79.5%) students completed a Web survey and 2080 (78.7% of the survey completers after adjusting for the ineligible) provided a saliva DNA sample. The response rate for completing both the survey and the DNA portion of the…
