Examining youth mental health promotion at scale
There is well-established evidence regarding the positive impact of mental health promotion with young people. Despite this, we know less about the implementation of youth mental health promotion (YMHP) programmes delivered at scale, in part due to a lack of published evaluations. This study used the RE-AIM framework to examine cross-cutting and diverging implementation components of three different YMHP initiatives delivered as part of a nationa…
Correlates of Primary Healthcare Access and the Moderating Effects of Gender
Despite long established comparatively poor health outcomes there has been limited research into the healthcare access of Irish migrants in the UK. This study examines the relationship between demography, self-reported health (SRH) and social support and healthcare access and the influence of gender on these associations. Data was collected as part of a community-based action research project with Irish migrants in London (n = 790). Hierarchical …
How to express evolution in English Pokémon names
This article contributes to the studies of sound symbolism, systematic relationships between sounds and meanings. Specifically, we build on a series of studies conducted within a research paradigm called “Pokémonastics,” which uses the Pokémon universe to explore sound symbolic patterns. Inspired by a study of existing English Pokémon names, two experiments were conducted in which English speakers were provided with pairs of pre-evolution and pos…
The moderating effect of functional social support on the association between unfair treatment and self-rated health
Despite research demonstrating the health promoting effects of social support, few studies have examined the moderating effect of functional social support on everyday unfair treatment for migrant communities. This study investigates whether functional social support moderates the association between unfair treatment and poor self-rated health for Irish migrants to the UK. Analysis of a purposive sample of Irish migrants in London was conducted (…

Postmigration Living Difficulties, Help-Seeking and Community Resilience in the Initial Stages of Migration
This article describes a community-based participatory action research (CBPAR) project that examined the postmigration living difficulties (PMLD), help-seeking and community resilience of recent Irish migrants to London (n = 176). The majority of respondents were young adults, in managerial or professional occupations and in good or very good health. Mixed methods indicate inadequate planning for relocation and poor social support as the main dif…

Information Complexity as a Constraint to Public Involvement in Sustainable Forest Management
This study explores the importance of information complexity and how it constrains interactive public involvement in forest management planning in Ontario, Canada. Our data was collected using five approaches: (a) content analysis of independent forest audits from 57 public forest units; (b) content analysis of self evaluated reports of effectiveness by 35 of 40 forest stakeholder advisory committees; (c) face to face interviews with 15 current a…
