India, Burma, and the Politics of Recognizing the New China

Yu Hong's sarcophagus, discovered at Taiyuan in Shanxi province in 1999, was the first of its kind to be excavated scientifically in China. Its importance lies in how it reveals the interactions between the East and West along the Silk Road by the sixth century. This is shown by its combination of traditional Chinese architecture, iconographic decorations in the style of Persian and Buddhist art, and motifs reflecting Zoroastrianism.
