  • On the long-run dynamics of income and wealth inequality

Open Access•Atanu Ghoshray, Issam Malki et al.•ARTICLE•Empirical Economics•2022

We analyse top income and wealth shares data, by conducting a robust estimation of trends, tests for structural breaks, and tests for determining persistence. We include Anglo-Saxon countries, continental Europe and Asian countries, grouped under different percentiles and deciles, spanning a period that is at least close to a century. We find that the top income shares for almost all countries are characterised by broken trends, or level shifts. …

  • Domesticating Light

    Open Access•Javier Ordóñez•ARTICLE•HoST - Journal of History of…•2020•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 1

Astrophysics was born in the nineteenth century as a “New Astronomy” (in the words of Samuel Langley, 1884), a knowledge built primarily by amateurs who explored deep space by studying the Sun, stars and nebulae. They were credible enough to interest physicists who did research on the properties of radiation and hence came to constitute a solid and recognised discipline. The aim of this research is to study the contribution of artisanal knowledge…

Maria Jesus Herrerías, Javier Ordóñez et al.•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2013•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 2

Herrerías M. J. and Ordóñez Monfort J. Testing stochastic convergence across Chinese provinces, 1952–2008, Regional Studies. This paper analyses stochastic convergence across twenty-eight Chinese provinces over the period 1952–2008 using unit root tests that take into account structural breaks and non-linearities. The results suggest a significant degree of convergence in capital intensity, labour productivity and total factor productivity in Chi…

  • Science, Technology, and the Spanish Colonial Experience in the Nineteenth Century

Alberto Elena, Javier Ordóñez•ARTICLE•Osiris•2000•Citada por: 1

Nineteenth-century Spain--using the resources that remained of its vast empire--struggled to maintain its place as an international power. Following the loss of its colonies on the American continent, however, it could assume only a modest imperial presence. This loss occurred at precisely the time that the country, lagging behind other European powers, was taking its first tentative steps toward industrialization and modernization. The delay in …

  • History of Science in Spain

Open Access•Alberto Elena, Javier Ordóñez•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•1990•Referencias: 1

It can certainly be said that history of science has experienced a large growth in recent decades in Spain. This has occurred despite the generic term ‘history of science’ covering activities of a very varied nature and lacking an intimate relation between each other, in research as well as instruction. At present the number of publications which could fit into the frame of this branch of learning has increased remarkably and commercial publishin…
