    Based mainly on Russian archival materials, this paper discusses the activities of monarchists of Zongshedang party (Party of the loyalty to the throne) in the first years after the Xinhai Revolution of 1911–1912, which destroyed the Qing Empire. Archival documents show the growth of sentiment for restoration of the Manchu monarchy in large segments of the society, including the Chinese, primarily in Manchuria and adjacent areas.     While the monarchist movement in China was quite active after the establishment of the Republic, its history is only known to European scholars in general terms. Among all efforts to restore the Qing monarchy, the 1917 attempt undertaken by General Zhang Xun was closest to success.     Goals. The work aims at analysis of the views of the 13th Dalai Lama on the status of Tibet. Russian archival diplomatic and intelligence documents, as well as earlier published data from archives and memoirs of eyewitnesses, were used as materials.
