    Open Access•Susana J Garcia, Susana García et al.•ARTICLE•Antropologia Portuguesa•2025

This article aims to describe a paleopathological case consistent with a paediatric hip joint trauma, discussing its aetiologies and lifelong implications, such as limb asymmetry and osteoarthritis. The case studied is a well-preserved skeleton of a female individual (Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência, Universidade de Lisboa) who died in Lisbon in 1954, at the age of 54. • The cost of direct air capture and storage can be reduced via strategic deployment but is unlikely to fall below stated cost targets

Open Access•John Young, Noah McQueen et al.•ARTICLE•One Earth•2023

Carbon dioxide removal (CDR) is necessary to minimize the impact of climate change by tackling hard-toabate sectors and historical emissions. Direct air capture and storage (DACS) is an important CDR technology, but it remains unclear when and how DACS can be economically viable. Here, we use a bottom-up engineering-economic model together with top-down technological learning projections to calculate plant-level cost trajectories for four DACS te…

  • Reference values of EORTC QLQ-C30, EORTC QLQ-BR23, and EQ-5D-5L for women with non-metastatic breast cancer at diagnosis and 2 years after

Open Access•Carme Miret, Miren Orive et al.•ARTICLE•Quality of Life Research•2023

These HRQoL reference norms can be useful to interpret the scores of women with non-metastatic breast cancer, comparing them with country-specific reference values for this population

The findings from the composite index of health summarized the health risk from exposure to arsenic for lower socioeconomic levels of the population for a broad area of the province of Buenos Aires

  • Changes in stature of Portuguese women born between 1966 and 1982, according to educational level

    Open Access•Eunice Conceição, Susana J Garcia et al.•ARTICLE•Antropologia Portuguesa•2012•Citada por: 1

Studies which document secular change in stature are almost exclusively based on males, while similar data on females is less common. In addition, secular trends in socioeconomic differences of height are seldomly reported. This study aims to document changes in mean stature in a sample of Portuguese women born between 1966 and 1982 (n = 30,629). For this study self-reported stature data was obtained from a large sample of women who delivered the…

    Open Access•Susana J Garcia, Susana García•ARTICLE•Antropologia Portuguesa•2011•Referencias: 5

This article aims to explore the role of social conflict on the social organization of non-human primates. The different causes and forms that the conflict may assume will also be described.A study about conflict would not be completed without looking at the mechanisms adopted by the primate order to minimize the possible negative impact of conflict itself. Thus, afiliative behavior and reconciliation will also be portrayed. The theoretical backgrou…

  • The Not‐so‐Dark Ages

    Open Access•Horacio Cardoso, Hugo F V Cardoso et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2009•Citada por: 11•Referencias: 43

This study attempts to address the issue of relative living standards in Portuguese medieval and early 20th century periods. Since the growth of children provides a good measure of environmental quality for the overall population, the skeletal growth profiles of medieval Leiria and early 20th century Lisbon were compared. Results show that growth in femur length of medieval children did not differ significantly from that of early 20th century chi…

Spatial analysis was shown to be a useful tool for site analysis and risk management since it indicated a definitive association between elevated lead levels and the proximity to the source, and/or residing on a dirt road, connections which had not been revealed with traditional epidemiological analyses. The results provided the scientific evidence needed to begin implementing interventions regarding the sources of exposure and education aimed at…

    Open Access•Susana J Garcia, Susana García•ARTICLE•Antropologia Portuguesa•2006
