Larsson's and Kim von Hackwitz's books encompass the same theme: the relationship between the so-called Pitted Ware culture and the Battle (or Boat) Axe culture. During the Early and Middle Mesolithic the bog Rnneholms Mosse, situated in central Scania, southernmost Sweden, was part of a large and shallow lake. It filled up with organic material over a long time, lasting until the middle part of the Atlantic period. Lately, evidence for early-Holocene emerging sedentism has been suggested among foragers in Northern Europe.
