What Is the Draw of the Metaverse? Personality Correlates of Zepeto Use Motives and Their Associations With Psychological Well-Being
Despite the hype surrounding the metaverse, there is scant empirical research that examines who uses the service, for what specific purposes, and with what consequences. Based on a survey of current Zepeto users ( N = 200), a popular metaverse application that enables people to create avatars and socialize while exploring the virtual spaces, we investigated (a) the key motives of Zepeto use, (b) how Big Five personality traits predict specific mo…
"An Evaluation of the Level of Implementation of KSOC"s Good Governance by Applying the Asoif Governance Evaluation Model
Assessing Expected Long-term Benefits for the Olympic Games
The Olympic legacy framework was proposed by the International Olympic Committee; however, it has not yet been discussed much in academia. This study identified a set of key dimensions and items out of 7 dimensions and 39 items from the Olympic legacy framework, along with the weight of each dimension and item. Based on the judgments of 12 Korean Olympic experts collected via the Delphi-analytical hierarchal process method, the results indicate t…
The Olympic Movement and Safeguarding Athletes
This article explores South Korea’s journey to protect athletes from physical abuse and sexual harassment in response to the International Olympic Committee’s Olympic movement initiative to safeguard athletes’ human rights. The paper critically reviews a series of campaigns to protect athletes, providing an academic opportunity to understand how Olympic movement initiatives have been accepted and developed by the National Olympic Committees throu…
More of a Receiver Than a Giver
We propose a logistic regression model taking into account two analytically different sets of factors–structure and action. The factors include individual, dyadic, and triadic properties between ego and alter whose tie breakup is under consideration. From the fitted model using a large-scale data, we discover 5 structural and 7 actional variables to have significant explanatory power for unfollow.
Structuralizing the Fluxus Way of Life
Fluxus is often understood as an avant-garde art movement led by George Maciunas in the 1960s. Such a narrative, however, is limiting as it overlooks the contribution of other prominent Fluxus artists. This article aims to challenge what is referred to as the Maciunas-based paradigm in its temporal scope and ideological homogeneity through the adoption of social network analysis
Strategizing Marriage
The genealogy of the Andong Gwon-ssi in the Seongwha period-the oldest extant genealogy in Korean history-offers a unique opportunity to explore political changes and gain insight into the formation of inner circles in Korea during the thirteenth to fifteenth century. Social-network analysis of the marriage networks within this genealogy reveals that for elite families in medieval Korea, marital strategy was as important as ancestry to the mainte…
Emergence of Stratification in Small Groups
Stratification within small groups is virtually inevitable. Understanding the precise mechanisms by which it occurs and the nature of its consequences is an important sociological endeavor. Individuals' preexisting qualities, as well as advantages emerging from intra‐group interactions, affect the flows of respect and deference accruing to each member of a group. Differences in these flows in turn create a hierarchy. In this essay, we first discu…
When Do Matthew Effects Occur
What are the boundary conditions of the Matthew Effect? In other words, under what circumstances do initial status differences result in highly skewed reward distributions over the long run, and when, conversely, is the accumulation of status-based advantages constrained? Using a formal model, we investigate the fates of actors in a contest who start off as status-equivalents, produce at different levels of quality, and thus come to occupy distin…
